My response addresses the deeper question of communication WITHOUT resorting to pseudoscience or science fiction (aka religion).

Those that envision telepathy usually picture “speaking” into the mind of another without verbalizing those words. What would that version of telepathy entail? Given the knowledge we have of how the brain works, this means we would have to directly induce an electric current at a variable distance, targeting precisely certain networks and cells without hitting others. Why would we evolve that incredibly complicated trait when it has such limited utility? Merely to create the illusion of speech? nonsense.

But the utility of subtle communication has been harnessed quite effectively through other ways i mentioned. We can convey incredibly complex ideas and emotions through body language and tone - often purposefully targeting someone.
