This guy calls my father and says he has this free service which will block all telemarketing calls. It’s a 5 digit “code” which you will receive from a lady. You can use that 5 digit code every time the telemarketer calls and then that number will be added to the block list.
here is the amazing part, the 5 digit code you receive is nothing but a confirmation number from CRAIGSLIST!!! LOL
so scammers are now targeting poor desis for their own scamming on craigslist. watch out!

Yep happened to me, I couldn't understand his accent. Later on I heard the voice mail the "lady" left and it said something about craigslist but I just deleted it. He wanted me to give him that number but I just hung up.

yeah head about it earlier this year - apparently, it’s people in India using VoIP to call various households, and once the craigslist PIN is verified (i.e. a craigslist account gets associated with the victim’s phone number), they’re selling these verified accounts to other businesses for about $10 a piece. The business in turn will use these verified accounts to post spam ads on Craigslist.
Gotta give it to them though… Social Engineering, Scam, Spam - all rolled into one initiative

so after I gave him a wrong craigslist code he said “sir are you sure this is the right one”.. i said yeah! says he will tell the “lady” to call again.. lol the second time he called i gave him some verbal ahem ahem. then he started threatening me that “YOU WILL SEE TOMORROW YOUR LAND LINE WILL BE CUT!!! YOU WILL RECEIVE $250 FINE FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENT”

^ yep they’re pretty persistent… in the US, they use FCC’s name to call, in Canada, they’re using CRTC and their Do Not Call List as the excuse for calling.
