Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
CB my mummy makes brilliant tehri nom nom will ask her the recipe and give it to you!
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
isnt tehri same as mattar pulao minus peas ?
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
Tahari - al maroof aalo ki biryani!
Two types of it : one with Haldi and red chillies and other without these but with green chilies.
Prepare your masala by frying onions and then putting in haldi, mirch, bari illachi and long and then put potatoes and cook till they are tender and then put rice. You can also add tomatoes but they should remain intact. Rest you already know CB.
Serve with salad or kachumar (onion, tomatoes, green chilies, green coriander and lemon juice) or with moli or whatever you like (yogurt too)

add rice and fry in the oil.
Add the appropriate amount of water to rice and cook.
Serve with kachoomar, dahi, achar.
We like it with shorbay wali chicken.
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
The only tahaari I know of is kheema ki tahaari. Does anyone else make this or is it an exclusive Hyderabadi dish? Please don't ask me for the recipe because I've never made it...but basically it reminds me of a biryani made with kheema..lol!
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
ohhh dear , so Tehri is basically aloo walai chawal ![]()
i thought it was something else …
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
^^CB yup.I think it is aloo walay chawal. From what I know it is made like a pulao. You fry the onions and cook the potatoes in it with the spices and all that and add rice and water and put on dum, kinda deal.
Khatti...If it is like keema biryani, you gotta try it.I came across the recipe on these forums a while ago and keema biryani is awesome..!
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
i'm not sure of what an authentic tehri is, but the way we make tehri (along with the rest of north india) at home is :
heat oil, add methi daana until it turns black and the yummy smell comes, add elaichi, laung, add gg+onion paste, add aloo chunks, namak, mirch, haldi (generously), bhoono then add chawal + bhoono, add water and cook. serve while piping hot :) with achaar, dahi and pyaaz chutney.
best.tehri.ever!
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
Yep CB its aalo ka pulao kinda :@:
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
my recipe :
heat oil add whole garam masala 1/2 to 1 tbsp , then add onion (1) and when onions start becoming transparent add potatoe cubes and thenadd haldi 1/4th tsp and 1/2 tsp crushed red chilli when haldi ka kacha pan nikal jayee then add water ( if 2 cups rices then 3-4 cups water) and add salt . When water starts boiling add rices (soaked for 30 mins) then dry water till bubbles starts popping from rices and then put on dum.
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
thanks so much guys for sharing the recipe .. waise I am still in shock that its basically aloo wali chawal .. coz i kept thinking tehri must be something like daal and rice mixed and cooked …
So if tehri is aloo chawal … then what rice are those in which daal and rice are cooked together ![]()
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
Kichri ![]()
Serve it with a tomato/onion/dhaniya chutney (not pissa huwa) and add some ghee to it, and serve it with some yogurt (as opposed to raita). Yumm!
Oh and you can add peas to it as well.
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
CB i also add yoghurt, it gives it a little more texture. A bit more heavier than pulao.
There is Masoor palao. My neighbors used to make it with black daal and potatoes and keema. It was a hearty and complete meal. They used to serve with raita. It was delicious too.
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
CB: Tahiri?
Re: Tehri Recipe needed please
Kitchri or Qabooli or as someone said masoor biryani.
