Tehreek Taliban Punjab

PPP Government is doing a good job !

It was no small achievement in Swat. Millions of IDPs could go back to their villages to celebrate the independence day. Taking care of the beast Baitullah Mehsud was also something great. In Punjab and else where the crack down on these jihadi nut cases is showing results and suicide bombings have reduced significantly…

Present government has delivered unlike former illegal dictator who used to play double games to prolong his criminal tenure by secretly helping fundo jihadis/terrorists who were able to find safe heavens in Pakistan after Taliban government in Afghanistan collapsed..

Editorial: Deadly Tehreek-e-Taliban Punjab

After the capture of some key Taliban members in the
aftermath of Baitullah Mehsud’s death, security agencies have been able to make unprecedented discoveries. The latest is the arrest of seven terrorists in Sargodha, including a person identified as “chief of Tehreek-e-Taliban Punjab”. They were ready to implement their plot “to blow up several police stations, towers of different cellular companies, the imambargah in Chiniot and textile mills in Faisalabad, during Ramazan”.

The police knew where to find them and, after the arrest of the six, may know, as a result of “interrogation”, where to find the rest of the Punjab franchise of the Taliban terror. A day earlier, the Karachi police equally knew where to find seven Lashkar-e-Jhangvi terrorists making ready to blow up some landmarks in the port city. The explosive material and suicide jackets found on them could have sufficed to start a mini-war in Karachi. Tellingly, they had heroin with them, linking them to the Al Qaeda-Taliban payment network.
Lashkar-e-Jhangvi has become a blanket term just as Sipah-e-Sahaba had in the 1990s. It is today the organisation whose handiwork has been owned by the late Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud. The Lashkar remains based in South Punjab and some of its big jobs are planned in Jhang, as in the case of the attack on the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad. In Multan, its big leaders like Akram Lahori are under trial in a court which is said to be ready to let them go because the eye-witnesses keep on dying mysteriously, a fate that might visit the judges too if they are not careful.
These are the Taliban of Punjab, in some ways more lethal than the Taliban of South Waziristan and other tribal regions. They have been trained by Al Qaeda and they have enjoyed, for decades, the patronage of the Pakistani state as its non-state actors for jihad in Kashmir. They also predate the Taliban in the art and craft of terrorism, having done it across two borders in what was called low-intensity or proxy war. Anyone who fools himself by saying that Punjab is free of the Taliban must surely be unaware of the damage he is doing to the state of Pakistan by holding and articulating such views.
The interior minister, Rehman Malik, may be aware of what he is up against. South Punjab is a tough nut to crack because this is where the nursery of non-state actors was first sown. He has seen the chief of one organisation — accused by the entire world of fomenting trouble in India — being let off; he might yet see Akram Lahori released for “lack of evidence”. And he may dream fruitlessly of bringing to trial the leader of Jaish-e-Muhammad, “hiding” in full public view, in a South Punjab city.
Mr Rehman was not without knowledge about the coming revelations about South Punjab. On June 27, 2009, he had told the London-based Financial Times, “We suspect something similar to Swat may arise in South Punjab”. He had added: “You know Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Jaish-e-Muhammad…all those people basically hail from that area. What we suspect is perhaps all those terrorists who fled from Waziristan or Swat might take refuge in south Punjab”. He didn’t fully realise that South Punjab was already well supplied with its own terrorists.
South Punjab terrorism is big business and it can be run with remote control. It is also safe because the Punjabis either don’t want to know about the terrorism buried in their guts or wish to remain in denial. But the JUI of Maulana Fazlur Rehman has made a bid for this bonanza by backing the Waliur Rehman Mehsud faction in the post-Baitullah Taliban infighting. Waliur Rehman as the new Taliban leader has sworn allegiance to Al Qaeda, designated President Obama as “enemy number one” and, more importantly, pledged more attacks inside Pakistan.
South Punjab is a trophy that may spell defeat for Pakistan but may yet be too heavy for the JUI to lift. This is a bride waiting for its bridegroom in the person of Osama bin Laden. The region is in the grip of a truce between feudal landlords and big madrassa-based clerics who once mass-produced non-state actors. And the writ of the state is weak in the face of this fear-based truce. *

Imran/Nawaz/Jamat Jihadis mantra = "No Talibanization in Pakistan, It is MQM Hinjew myth". Repeat 72 times when wearing spaaeecial "jacket".

Re: Tehreek Taliban Punjab

Daily Times editorial :D

I think you don't understand brother..

Former illegal dictator is conspiring to bring down the present set up in which PPP is taking the lead and PML N is facilitating them quietly to make sure these jihadi goons are controlled...on the other hand former dictator is using his jihadi type nut case contacts in establishment to malign PPP government with corruption charges...on the other hand the criminal is using MQM malign PML N against some actions which were taken by the army against some hard core criminals at that time...people of Pakistan should beware and understand these mafia like partners of criminal dictator don't succeed and present set up continues !!!

Re: Tehreek Taliban Punjab

I agree. PPP and Zardari has done well so far in tackling this monster and the situation does seem to be getting under control. Suicide bombings and killings have decreased and the terrorists are on the defensive now. This is acheived despite Taliban sympathisers present in important places, making it hard to go after these animals. Much more needs to be done to secure the country but the Zardari government does deserve applause for the improvement.

PML-N and it's B team of mullah gang is indeed facilitating someone and it ain't pakistani forces. In ther heart of hearts their sympathies will always been with the right wing contingent.

Dear bhai
Don't get fooled by this kind of blatant lies...this is exactly what murdood dictator has been telling the world that PML N is B team of mullahs to hide his criminalities..Actually these taliban killers and MQM terrorist were his B team alongwith jihadi establishment guys! Now both these groups have teamed up to protect the murdood and want to get rid of present set up by maligning PPP government with corruption stories and kala bhoot going after PML N by creating this drama of crying against an operation which occured 17 years ago against hardcore criminals! The sole purpose is to save the criminal dictator from getting persecuted according to the constitution of Pakistan..
All these criminals have damaged Pakistan in the past and want to do the same again...I don't think pakistani people can be fooled once again with all this crap ! We should lget behind the present set up who are the best available choice available under the circumstances...

dailytimes editorials fun to read...

and way mentioning of rehman malik is really self evident for the ehalth of the article.

Pakistani people will tomorrow turn in favor of even late Baitullah Mehsud if Nawaz, Jamatis, Imran and certain army corp commanders declare (which army had already done in the past, do you remember?) declare Mehsud as patriot and shaheed.

What you call drama will come and haunt Pakistan once again like it did in 71 and is haunting Pakistan right now in the form of animalistic talibanis. I'll leave it at that, as the truth of the fake operation against mohajirs is out there for everyone to see. No need for me to try to force a horse to water...

And they would be crying about a 'fake operation' done against taliban.

Wrong !!

Baitullahs and fazlullahs are illegal children of murdood dictator... They were born during his tenure, they were financed by him...and the only purpose they served was to create a drama to help the murdood dictator survive 9 long years...

Re: Tehreek Taliban Punjab

why all this fighting?

Baitullah and fazullah are brothers to Altaf bhai then!

You are living in a fantasy world if you think Baitullah was born and became a jihadi in 1999. At the very least read his history. He was born in Afghan jihad era where ISI and Zia ran the show.

Both are working for rogue/jihadi/criminal elements in the establishment who are active once again to malign the government and the opposition !!!

It was an army corp commander who declared Baitullah a "patriot" and that the army and agencies only had a "misunderstanding" with him where he accidentally tripped and beheaded a couple of soldiers. This is how fickle the anti taliban campaign has been for the agencies and the right wing jamatis who still cannot answer if baitullah was shaheed or just killed.

The only one that has been actively mailing the government has been the nawaz league and nawaz league jr immi khan along with mullah group. That alone tells the entire story.

Exactly now you prove my point !

Target of MQM and baitullahs/Fazlullahs is the same...bring back military mafia by maligning government and opposition !!!

They consider civilian rule as a threat against their terrorist activities. In the past all the civilian governments have been too harsh on terrorist/criminal activities of all sort of terrorist groups including MQM... These terrorist organisations have always flourished in the illegal tenures of military dictators and under the umbrella of mafia like rogue establishment !!!

Umm, since when is MQM calling for the ouster of the Zardari government? Is the roza getting to your head?

It is convenient to blame Musharraf for everything under the sun that ails Pakistan. But what people forget is that when Musharraf resorted to military action, his moves were jinxed by these same politicians, who resorted to using lawyers and thugs for hire to hold rallies in order to 'protest against using force against your own people'.
Well guess what, thats exactly what they are doing now, and that is what has brought around results, albeit limited. They knew that Musharraf's approach of using force, alongwith calculated negotiations was bringing results, but they used lawyers and thugs to force him out, and now have used the same tactics to bring about a change in Swat and other northern areas.

Current govt, whether federal, or provincial, is quick to take credit for any good that comes about, even though it may have been initiated by Musharraf....but they are also quick to lay blame on Musharraf for anything that doesnt work out.
Swat problem solved? PPP did it.
Electricity problem lingers? Musharraf did it.
Sugar Problem? Musharraf!

Who cares if the dollar reserves declined from almost $15 billion to a mere $3 billion within months of the PPP taking charge? Who cares if we are back to being beggars in front of the IMF and WB?

I think both PPP and PML N realize very well the tactics of rogue establishment and their designs. That's the reason PML N is giving every sort of cooperation to the Prime Minister and PM is acting very intelligently...

You can see PML N did not give too much importance to the corruption charges against the government. Similarly PM camp knows the present campaign to malign NS by ex military rogue elements is just an attempt to malign the politicians.

Please note according to MQM the rogue establishment who carried out the operations and doled the money are saints and politicians are culprits... the signs are too obvious my friend !!!

If you still want to be fooled it's your choice !!!
