Teenage Pregnancy

Every other teen movie shows teens dating and making out and I am surprised how parents allow their 12/13 year old kids to date. Then there’s tv shows, ad campaigns and news articles that sorta glamourise teenage pregnancy and present those teens as the victims of this ruthless society. I’m sorry but the society is right in saying kids under 18 should not be having sex and if you get pregnant, no one but **you **are responsible unless, god forbid, you were raped. We might as well not bother with sex education in the middle east/asia if despite all that awareness teens aren’t going to learn anything about the use of contraceptives and just end up getting more “inquisitive”!

Re: Teenage Pregnancy

I think for the largely muslim countries, religion enough is a deterrent... Though its not like it doesnt happen...Sex ed was never meant to keep kids from having sex... They know they will... It was just introd to teach kids how to have safe sex.

Muslim countires dont need this... Cuz any guy girl doing it would be fully packed up with any and all kinds of birth control crap in order to hide that thhey are indeed doing the dirty deed. Imagine getting pregnant!!!!

Now in the west, its not a matter of life and death or honour... So kids are relaxed whwre protection is concerned... Thus the pregnancies.

Re: Teenage Pregnancy

Here in the UK you were disowned by your family if you got pregnant as a teenager 30 years ago. Now you get given a free house and all the money you can spend.

Re: Teenage Pregnancy

Forget teen pregnancies, Sex Ed for 5 yr olds, dare to think what they will think up next, absolutely absurd.

Re: Teenage Pregnancy

I think its a real problem even in Muslim communities. Recently a study was done by Sr. from our area on Muslim teens in the US. And the results were staggering. When prompted for responses and guaranteed that their replies would be anonymous, many muslim youth answered positive to trying sex and alcohol by the age of early adulthood.

In essence the problem is rooted in the hypocritical norm of the west where on one side teen pregnancy is disliked and frowned upon, while on the other side a teen that is not dating or not seeing the opposite gender on private/personal outings is considered abnormal.
Its like saying take a dive in the snake pit but don't get bit.

A recent ABC series covered a lot of teen sex and pregnancy issues. However the only message it delivered, at least to my wife who watched some of the shows, is that its okay to have sex while your a teenager, however its only the dumb teen girl who gets pregnant while doing it. What a farce!

The only cure is abstinence from interaction during those hormone ridden years as prescribed in Islam and other divine religions.

Re: Teenage Pregnancy

I am not that surprised, however a bit overkill even by the standards of a secular society. I mean the earlier you tell a human being how its done, the earlier he or she will want to try it. What would Freud say when doing the psychosis of a pre-teen or teen who was made aware at this early age and then exercised his / her knowledge and tried it?

Re: Teenage Pregnancy

agreed fully.

Re: Teenage Pregnancy

Re: Teenage Pregnancy

5 years old is too early but I think parents should talk to their kids about sex when the child is mature enough. And this culture is a farce but if you ask most parents I don't think they would mind their kids (especially daughters) not having sex. It's up to parents to let their kids know that sex is not ok, and that it's something that WE don't do. It's just difficult with the media bombarding you with the message that pre marital sex is ok.

Also note that people used to get married in their teens and normally would be having sex around that age. Society has just changed so that longer education and general immaturity has made the delay of marriage the norm. When you're asking someone to wait until their late 20s, especially if that person is attractive, you're really asking them to fight against nature. And I don't mean to offend anyone with the attractive comment but beautiful people would naturally have a lot more options to have casual sex, especially in this culture.
