Has technology made life happier for human beings? How? Has technology made life easier? How? Please be explicit about your response with giving some examples.
And no it’s not for any school project. :halo:

Re: Technology ...
Communications.
If it wasnt for the invention of microprocessor and computers, you would have been using smoke signals to get response of other guppies for your above question. And I being thousands of miles away would not have "heard" you.
Re: Technology ...
Abio, so you are saying that it has definitely made your life easy. How about happier?
Re: Technology ...
Happier too.
Invention of Cathode Ray Tube led to the development of TV. With TV came programs like Jay Leno, David Letterman etc.
Re: Technology ...
Sewage system.. to be precise.. my flush!
No matter how crappy a day i have.. one push of a button and it's all gone! Easy AND Happy
Re: Technology ...
Its gotta be air-conditioner for me. As hypothetical questions go, I'd love to be in many historic eras to witness major world changing events with my eyes, but I'd rather not, for lack of proper air-conditioning. Any time period after air-conditioning was functional is fair game, though.
Re: Technology ...
Ummm....... look, if it wasnt cz of this technological age, I would have been married by now and have 5 or 10 kids. I dont. Thanks to the techonological age. I like my machine-like life. Less hassels than an emotional one.
Oh wait a minute.... were you asking about 'technology'? Well, I like most new gadgets. Definitely make your life easier.
Re: Technology ...
yeah technology is good, has made life easier for us. But at the same time we are becoming lazy. Before the technology people ate healthy food and worked long hours but were happy, strong and motivated.
Now the food is more processed. U prefer going in a car to get anday doubleroti, rather than walk a few steps. Due to these increased health problems.... etc etc.
Re: Technology ...
Iam in the communication stuff..Latest technology has made gr8 changes in life ..
you hear a voice from the other side of the planet in just 3 seconds !
Re: Technology ...
it takes you three seconds? what are you on, paper cup and string phones?
Re: Technology …
Technology has made lfe easier by increasing means of communication , however, privacy really has become a luxury because identity theft is a bigger threat than ever before. My favorite invention has got to be a tie between cellphones n tv… internet is somewhere up there.. ![]()
Re: Technology ...
Actually the argument goes both ways. People successfully can argue that cell phones haven’t made life easier, just faster. If you don’t have a cell phone people will not expect you to be in touch all the time, anywhere you are. Your employer wouldn’t call you after hours; people wouldn’t pick up the phone to ring you up if you are running 5 minutes late. So, while technology has made life easier, it has also made expectations higher and therefore the net effect is hard to calculate.
A PhD student in the 60s would have had corrections by hand on his final thesis paper that he typed or got typed but we who are suppose to be a paperless generation waste paper by the reams and have a 100 revisions done because we are expected to produce magazine quality writing all the time! In the 60s the PhD student would make his presentation on the chalk board, now it has to be in power point or something similar with cool animations to cater to our short attention span.
It is also said that in the 60s people were told that technology is growing so fast that recreational studies should be worth looking into because due to technology people will have all the time in the world. But take microwave for example, while it is convenient and quick, it hasn’t quite saved us any time because we are expected to use the same time to do an extra commute to work or stay late and be more productive or something else.
Re: Technology ...
Technology has ruined the life of man. With the advent of life saving devices and new technolgy in medicine, man has conquered many diseases but with its advent also came new diseases and old ones were emphasized, like diabetes, heart conditions and so on due to lack of means to expend one's energy.
Anthropologists consider agriculture the biggest mistake of mankind. Why? Because it was agriculture that man had time to procreate and hence the population explosion.
I have always believed people who lived and still live simply have a far happier and healthier lifestyle as opposed to those of us raised on Ataris and computers. As a kid the streets were my playground and the Shaitoot ka darakht my game console. I had many friends with whom adventure seeking was part of growing up.
In the old days people had more time to spend with each other. The talks were meaningful and deep. What major work of art or literature has been produced in the last 30 years? Harry Potter? Photoshop?
People had more admiration for each other and lived longer, healthier lives.
We say technology has given us the TV, the computer, the car, the airplane e.t.c. So what? What have we received in return? Entertainment? More time? Wrong...
It has taken away meaning from life and left husks of human where a creature of emotion thrived. Good emotions too. Most importantly of all, the lust for technology has taken away our inner peace. We always want the brighter, the bestest, the fastest than what our neighbour has, hence we work longer, more and hectic.
I don't believe technology has given us anything significant. The only thing I can think of is my ability to search online for something written by Ibn Taymmiyah or Jawzee to satiate my heart's desire for peace. But then, there has been no Ibn Taymiyyah for the last 200 years. Man has become to busy to indulge himself with peace of mind. Instead, we hurry in a fast paced environment looking for that fast dose of peace, like a tablet of soma. Go on a vacation perhaps. But then, you must work to earn enough to afford a peaceful vacation.
I think technology is the search for what is best for mankind. Unfortunately its results are mostly negative.
Re: Technology ...
what i don't get is people putting availability of choices down for the sheer reason that they don't know how to use it for themself.
GREAT if you liked your shahtoots and your 'adventures' with your friends.. it doesn't in the least take away from the fun other kids might wanna have in front of a gaming console cuz they like it that way.
GREAT if you like to spend time with others.. for others they could just be smelly, stupid desis who don't have a clue and can't indulge in a meaningful conversation without dragging in and discussing people not ideas.. so forget THAT!
And what u do count as a blessing may be far bigger than that.. we have tools today at our disposal dudes like Jawzee couldn't dream of; We are today in a better position to learn and research.. if these guys were alive today, they'd be reading OUR work!
Re: Technology …
Agree with Lajawab
Technology has stolen the inner desire within us to explore nature and our own imagination. I remember when i was a kid (not that long ago
) we found ways to be creative and imaginative for entertainment. We actually played house n teacher teacher (IM SUCHH A FOB) n tea party n god knows silly silly games for entertainment. I didn’t have ataris n nintendos in karachi so we spent time outside in the sun than cooped up in a room in front of a tv. Nowadays, children aren’t required to use their imagination because all that they can imagine is on tv, in vdo games n whatnot. My 2 yr old nephew knows how to put a movie on a dvd. He’s too young for all this.. heck when i was two, i didn’t know what a movie was. Technology, althou created to make our life easier is actually depriving us of living life to the fullest enjoying the tiny pleasures in life.. we all have become to preoccupied with cutting the corners to save time, where we have forgotten in the search for saving time is actually quite time consuming.
Re: Technology ...
oops
Re: Technology ...
what the hell is wrong with this
since when did posting become a task..
TO PA... don't u think children should atleast be given a chance/forced into it to explore beyond vdo games or tv shows? They don't have to go find a shatoot a darakth but how bout just going outside for a bike ride with friends, or playin hockey in real life than on NHL 200sumthin
Re: Technology …
So what?
Even if your brain possessed all the technological prowess in the world, how different or better off are you from Sheeda who raises cows in Gujranwala?
Re: Technology ...
ahmadjee, this should be enough material for your school assignment.
Re: Technology ...
^ Hey, he confirmed in his first post, it is not for his school assignment.
