KARACHI: The Defence Housing Authority has planned to build a technology park and an IT university at the old racecourse ground here.
The racecourse, around 120 acres in area, is owned by the Army that has gifted it for the development of the IT Park, Botanical Garden and recreational park. Twenty-five acres of this land will be used for the technology park and 10 acres for the Jinnah University of Information and Technology.
The work on the project has been initiated. The infrastructure for the IT Park envisages the laying of 155 mbps fibre-optic lines to the park from the PTCL exchange in the Cantonment.
The Jinnah IT University would have research facilities while around 600 IT and Telecom companies would be housed in the IT Park. For the IT University and Park, 25 to 30 modern building complexes will be constructed and equipped with all the IT, telecommunications, digital and software facilities. —PPI

The technology park established in Islamabad has also proved to be a big success, with some of the best techies in the country opening their offices there, with resounding success and offering a chance to bright students to get internships. I hope the same goes for Karachi!!
