Re: Technology and your child
Thankfully I never have to explain what I wrote because no one has to read my writing except myself. :D
Well I have to every time since I have to fill out forms for the entire family and its not good. My kids school knows me and always asks me to email them. :-)

Me too! :D We are peaceful here.
Re: Technology and your child
I don't think we've ever had fights in these forums. Such a nice lot. =D
Re: Technology and your child
Of course this is the IT Forums. What is there to fight about?
Re: Technology and your child
I'm a big advocate of using tech (whoda thunk). My handwriting is excellent but I hate using pen and paper. I do the same thing when asked to fill forms, do you have it online.
With kids, its good to have them do physical activites and teach them handwriting like they do. But I love e-readers. Let kids learn the latest technology. It takes loads and loads of stuff off the kids shoulders. Having a dozen books and a dictionary on my Kindle makes me want to be a kid and re-living life. Imagine what it would be like in 20-30 years.

Technology, if used correctly, can be a great enrichment to your child's daily life.

Re: Technology and your child
There is no doubt at all about the benefits that can be realized from technology.....anyone that is not willing to accept this fact is just being foolish.
As long as there is moderation and supervision it's all good.
Having said that....my child will be starting to practice with the fountain pen next week iA. :D
Re: Technology and your child
^^^ I love fountain pens. And I do know your obsession with them as well :D!
Re: Technology and your child
We should buy M a good fountain pen.

I'll get her a set with real ink from India. Also a calligraphy set.
Re: Technology and your child
Calligraphy will come later.....just get them to start holding the pen with the nib at the right angle....once they get the hang of this they will always have beautiful handwriting. I'm just anal about it.
I picked up a set from Staples with three different nib sizes so that she can learn how each will impact the form of the letters and strokes......wasn't expensive at all and since the ink comes in cartridges there's no mess for her to worry about.
Re: Technology and your child
I have a pretty good handwriting (
) and was very very devastated to see my older one’s. Worked on it and now she’s much better. Choti’s is like her mama’s
. The thing with Bari is that she is always in a rush could care less about how beautiful it is as long as it’s legible! ![]()

Re: Technology and your child
no expert or experience here, but my primary worry about "technology" and kids is the same worry i have about myself too - tech of the internet/tablets/ipods form equates with instant gratification, and encourages distraction and multi-tasking. one of the most important things one can do as a kid or a teen is to learn to concentrate and focus effectively on a single big task, plan, organize and do it well and in a predictable manner, achieving flow. this, imho, is what separates a lot of bright people from average people. i guess if i can teach my kid to use technology the right way, and not be its mindless slave, im all for it. at the end of teh day, geeks do after all rule the world.
