Exactly this the reason behind downfall of South Asian hockey and another being the artificial pitches. In the name of making hockey a spectator sports - the FIH has changed it all together - but despite that hockey still comes at number 35 out of 35 sports in Germany. Crowds never grow more than 15,000 in Europe.

Football is still being played on the rules of like 50-60 years ago!

Excellent point about Football being played the same way over last several decades. Never thought of making that connection.
