Sad performance. They did not lose a single game up to Semis. The defeat to Malaysia in the Semi was a big blow to Indian aspirations to win a gold in Asiad and a free token to the 2012 Olympics. The mistakes happened with Penalty Corner strategies and India could not utilize it fully(Just 2 goals out of 4).Whereas Malaysia scored three goals out of 4 corners they had bagged.

I am sure the team will bounce back....
I have not seen hockey in ages. India's performance seems similar to any race - say 5 km, where one is ahead for most of the race, but gets beaten at the finish.
On another note, the game has changes significantly since ~ 1980, when I used to watch it. Caught a brief glimpse in the recent Olympics - could not even recognize the game. People hitting from one end of the field to the other, using reverse stick to hit it powerfully, on defence, coming from wrong side and not being called foul, no dribbling, just hit and run. The skill factor appears to be substituted by brute force. Any insights welcome.

Exactly this the reason behind downfall of South Asian hockey and another being the artificial pitches. In the name of making hockey a spectator sports - the FIH has changed it all together - but despite that hockey still comes at number 35 out of 35 sports in Germany. Crowds never grow more than 15,000 in Europe.
Football is still being played on the rules of like 50-60 years ago!

Excellent point about Football being played the same way over last several decades. Never thought of making that connection.
