Teaching

i kno we have a couple of teachers on GS. i was wondering if it takes the same yrs, if u wana become say a 1st or 2nd grade teacher, as a highschool teacher or something?

:bummer: i keep jumping from one major to another, i don’t know i just don’t anymore :teary2:

Re: Teaching

i am no teacher, but you can definitley discuss this with your most trusted professor. and , choose a major absolutely asap.

Re: Teaching

^^i think i will have to pay my advisor a visit, although they haven’t really helped me in anything.

and well i am in business but i wonder if it’s possible to get a degree in business and teaching, im sure it’ll take billion more years for that though :bummer:

Re: Teaching

For high school, you need to have a specialty you plan to teach in future. Mostly HS teachers get their degree in whatever they want to teach and go through the licensing for certification. For Pre K- grade 6, you don't need a specialty, you go through the general ed program for pre k- 6 and then get licensed in all the Gen ed. areas.
What is your present major? And what do you want to switch to... elementary or high school?

After the basic Gen Ed. requirements for the Bachelors Program, it normally takes 2 yrs for the education program.

Oh and jumping from majors is kind of normal initially but it is always good if you can decide on one soon.

Have you ever worked with kids? Do you know why you want to go into education?

Re: Teaching

Oh yes, you can double major in business and education. With business, it would be better if you stick with HS, you’ll be in demand.

Re: Teaching

no, i don't want to teach highschool braty kids. i want to work with 1st or 2nd graders. i've only worked with todlers, but i don't know why i think i'd love to teach. and right now my major well i was thinking of accounting but still very unsure in business

so you're saying it's bachelors plus 2 more years??

Re: Teaching

Well maybe volunteer in schools, if you like working with them then go for it. And the 2 yrs of education program is part of the the bachelors program.

Re: Teaching

^^i can volunteer in schools eventhough i haven’t taken any courses in education?? :konfused:

hmms i think i’ll definetly look into this, thanks lus :hugz:

Re: Teaching

Oh yeah, they are always looking for volunteers, just tell them you are student and you need volunteer hours and you'd like to get some hours with the teacher. Just check schools close to you. And no problem, anytime :)
