teaching urdu reading to an adult

Hi every one. A lady has asked me to teach her urdu reading. She has some but little knowledge of the urdu alphabets. Sooo now my question is- how do i go about starting? I was thinking to start by teaching the alphabets, and then simple joining. For example, alif and bay= ab, bay and alif= baa.

Any tips ?? i teach urdu but to little kids.Teaching and adult will be a new thing for me and i am a little nervous.

Re: teaching urdu reading to an adult

I think Urdu reading for newbies who don't have knowledge of alphabets (be it adults or children) should start the way you mentioned. If she picks it quickly, then in next step she should be provided with children story books at first stage and Urdu akhbar at next stage (BTW I'm not satisfied with the language of Urdu newspapers).

Re: teaching urdu reading to an adult

teach her alphabets...and vowels...like zer, zabar, pesh etc...

alif zabar aa
alif zer ae
alif pesh O
alif do zabar AN
alif do zer = IN
alif do pesh = UN

then teach her HALF parts of the alphabnets...then how to JOIN them before and after the letters.

i hope she already knows the sounds of alphabets...like:

a = alif
b = be
p = pe

etc
