Oooh Literacy is such a bummer. I used to think it would be so easy and so much fun. My daughter loves to read and she writes pretty well too. But the subject itself is a killer. She too struggled. I totally understand what your son is going through. Unfortunately, I have no suggestions apart from get him some temporary outside help. Its kind of like fine tuning the way he thinks about the questions. Soon as he gets the gist of answering several types of questions, he may be able to think for himself.

PS I assume this is the British system Keystage 2 he is at?? In that case have you ever visited BBC Bitesize learning key stage 2...google it up it might be pretty helpful
