Re: Teaching My Son
Icon, the best thing to do is to make the task an enjoyable one. Thats easy to say but VERY difficult to implement. Try some googling about the specific areas of difficulty that your son has and you can find strategies that will help. Beleive me, with 2 boys on the autism spectrum, I know about learning difficulties lol! But really, google specifics about the trouble and you can find great strategies. Its all about making the task enjoyable AND do-able. Sometimes, even a very smart kid can become confused and overwhelmed when presented with a small roject - like tell me what this book was about. One strategy is to have the kid make a very simple numbered list of those things. THEN use that list to write the sentences. Some kids need things to be more ordered and more broken down becacuse "write what it was about" is just too overwhelming. But the amazing thing is that - you break it down using the numbered list, do this 3 or 4 times and then they go sailing off on their own and no loner need that extra step.
Good luck!!! and go google!!
