Teaching in Pakistan

Are there any guppies here who are not originally from Pakistan but teaching in Pakistani schools? I’m particularly interested to hear from teachers teaching in English/British schools in Pakistan. What is teaching like in these schools compared to back home? Please share your experiences.

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

I have seriously considered such a career after getting the MA.

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

Teaching in English School depends on the administration , say if the Administration is foreign like that Of Sheikh Ziyad International School , then it is more convenient , But if it is local then alot of factors are involved , like personal grudges etc . which makes things a lil complexed .

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

Try Berlitz and American School.

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

this might seem like a silly question... but I'll ask anyways
do they still have corporal punishment in schools? I mean do they beat your kids if they step out of line?

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

I'm in the UK I remember the mulana sahib used to beat the 5 8 year old kids with a cane and used to slap them like you would slap a horse

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

one of my relatives is a university professor, and he says that foreign trained teachers can get good titles. but the corruption in education is just as bad as in anyother sector.

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

I interviewed at a local private university in Karachi for an IT professor during a visit few years back. I was accepted and offered a reasonable salary. I was only experimenting things and I wasn't serious so I never took the position.

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

^ what was the salary..if you don't mind me asking.

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

60k Rupees/month

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

Asif,

For 60,000 rupees a month teaching job, what were the job requirements? What education requirements and experience did they require for the job you were offered? Please advise, so I can get an idea of what is required.

Re: Teaching in Pakistan

It is one of the most expensive universities that I have known in PK. Someone I knew was paying like 1,50,000 rupees for a single semester.

To be able to qualify for the job, one had to have Masters in Computer Science. A degree from USA or UK was prefered. At least 5 years of teaching experience was mandatory. I did'nt meet any of the requirements - no teaching experience at all and no masters. I only had a Bachelors degree from USA and 8 years of IT experience (software development, IT lead, Techincal Project Manager, etc). I was still able to convince them that I was an ideal candidate.

Anyway, the job requirements weren't any different than any teaching job here in the U.S. The job hours were 7 to 3 if I remember it correctly. They had pre-selected syllabous for the course but you were welcome to bring in positive changes after approvals. I was to create and manage assignments, tests, finals and grade the students based a point system that was maintained by not only the performance in the tests but also attendance and student participation. The assignment was to be given to the students using emails.
