Teaching in America

I have graduated, 2.1 (History), and think I want to teach. Is there any way I can land a teaching job in the US without a specific teaching qualification?

What abt if I were to teach in the less pleasant areas of LA ect?

Any contacty addresses for further enquiries.

Thanks,

Leg

Re: Teaching in America

I have read abt something called the CBEST certificate, but am not exactly sure what it refers to. Can someone elaborate?

Thanks,

Re: Teaching in America

Im tellin ya NYC is nice and pleasant. Very low stress, no hassle, kids are well behaved.

Re: Teaching in America

Cbest is the California Teaching thing.

Ah NY, has been in my dreams for along time. Probably cos most movies I watch are based there. :D

I'd love too. Any where would be good, am just bored of this place. Also are options broader for a graduate of Intl Relations/Politics then for History.

Peace

Re: Teaching in America

I second Sara. Any place in NYC… especially… Bronx… oh, let’s not forget the prize legbreak should really foucs on … Harlem, Babay! :k:

Re: Teaching in America

Harlem is home to some of the greatest poetry in C20 America. Personal faves include Langston Hughes and Jamaician-American Claude McKay.

I'd rather teach in sunny California, with its large bimbo population. :D

Re: Teaching in America

well legbreakgoogly, first you have to figure out the level you want to teach at which can be elementary, high school, college and/or university. I believe that you have to have a certification unless you've done master in that specific subject which in your case is history. elementary and high schools do demand certifications though as you have to go through student teaching. However the might have some difffernet requirements in other states. I am talking about Illinois and we have Illinois Certification Testing System (ICTS) as they have CBEST in california. They might have some different rules there but the fgood thing about getting certified is that you can teach in some other states with certification from just one state.

I would recommend talking to some education advisor to get exact information about what you plan to do.

Re: Teaching in America

If you wish to teach but do not wish to attain a Teaching Degree, why not teach in a 3rd World Country. They are always looking for Teachers and their students are so grateful they actually want to learn!

Re: Teaching in America

I am happy to obtain a PGCE or CBEST as required. Just need to know what is needed.

Re: Teaching in America

houston will be good place also, depend where u wanna tech in high school or college/universities.

i don't know about college/universities. for high school if u have done certain amount of hours for specific course then u can teach in high school but if u do one year or certificate of teaching then they will pay u more.

now for example u said u graduated with history, so u have a lot of courses in history so u basically ask them requirement of the school and just apply. every district might have different rules , but is just slithgly different :) .

good luck :)
