Im not sure what you mean. Are you coming to the US for studies, as well as to get some teaching experience? If you are coming for studies (as well as teaching experience), you will be on a F1 visa (J1, if ure on a govt scholarship), but you cant work offcampus. If youre just applying for a teaching job in the US, then you need to talk to your employer about sponsoring an H1 visa (work visa). PM me if you want more details.
Generally speaking, there are a LOT of high school teaching opportunities available specially in California. Some teachers were laid-off due to state budget cuts last year, but from what I have heard they are all hired back. You will need a california teaching certification called CBEST (basic math/english 5 hour test) and california teaching credentials (just a 6 month course). However, the demand for teachers is such that they can even arrange whats called emergency credentials, which will enable you to complete the requirements in 2 weeks. Additionally, California high school districts such as LAUSD (LA Unified School District) keep having job fairs every 3 months. Also check out teachinla.com Please pm if u have any other questions.
lbg, the funny thing is that to teach at high school level, u dont even need a masters degree. Bachelors degree with CBEST and Teaching credentials should be just fine. However, obviously a masters won't hurt. I know a lot of high school teachers actually start their teaching jobs, and then start their masters part-time at any of the California Universities. So if I were u, I won't even worry about a masters just right now, as u can do it while u r teaching. You can do pgce for ur own sake, but as i said earlier CBEST and teaching credentials r more important.
As far as visa issues goes, I am not too sure how that would work but I have heard of many cases where the school would issue H1 (employment visa). Usually u will need to sign a 4-5 year contract for that.
Starting salary, as you probably know, is anywhere in the range of $36K - 45K. As you would have probably guessed by now, I am in the education field myself.
You can check out cbest info at cbest.nesinc.com I dont think they offer testing outside of California. As far as openings go, start with the lausd website jobfairs, as opposed to specific schools as you will get correct guidance from them regarding the visa issue as well.
