Reminds me of one of Ghalib’s letters..
In one of those letters, he depicts his environment. A small room in Dilli … He says something like:
Tatti Lagi huvee hai, thanDi hawaa aa rahi hai
Now that Tatti means “kha’s” - a kind of bush on which when water is poured, the air turned into cool breez… (most Room Cooler in pakistan use the same bush) and he wrote** Tatti lagi huvee hai (khiRki par)

and yes i’ve seen ‘khass’ in lucknow’s coolers..constantly had to be filled with water.. so we had done some ‘jugaar’ and got a pipe from nalka to the cooler at REALLY low pressure ..
