I thought we already went over this. You only earn that much once you get a professorship (which is very different from the USA btw) and lectureship is just a very small part of the job.
We have a lecturer/research group leader who has been applying for years for a professorship, without joy. He's finally realised he will only make 'reader' for now. It's no easy task to get that level (professor), it's seen as the final career step. And really, compared to the same level of job in industry, 60,000-100,000 Euros is nothing.
*Teachers *are predominantly school teachers and they earn a low salaries like most other public sector workers.
