This is idiotic. Basically the state has accepted that it cant provide security to its people. I hope we dont start hearing of incidents like those in the US.

No we don't. It seems however the KPK government does love its guns by giving teachers a 2 day training. I mean for love of god the police gets month of training in weapons but the teachers, the people around children get 2 days of training.
This is not gonna end well. Its gonna end up with some teacher loosing his or her cool and killing a kid.

I completely agree with kpk on this one. How ever the training need to be intense assault training with close combat guns... like army had those mp5 guns...
When israel does some thing like this, for example their army men even on vocation, even on the beaches carry automatic assault weapons; whole world praise them.
If teacher corporate this is very genuine solution to save children. Plus remember image counts, once TTP thugs know they would be met with resistance, they probably wont pick such targets.

I just hope the teachers keep their cool. They should keep the guns locked away just in case.

sigh Monk you really think 5 year olds should be around guns? Really? You know that last month alone in the US 3 kids killed their parents as they had access to guns?
This is by far the dumbest idea the KPK government has had. This is an absolute failure of the government to do one simple thing. Protect its citizens.
They should hire private guards for each school and they should be trained. Not teachers. There are plenty of men in KPK who do not have jobs.
Why not give them a government job, train them and let them feed their families with the money they earn? This way you are giving them a job, letting them earn halal money and keeping their families well sustained.
See I fixed unemployment, security, and got guns out of school in a matter of 30 seconds.

I promise you, I am the biggest chicken when it comes to idea of people keeping guns at home etc. I use to read all the mishandling guns and people getting killed , in pakistan.
But there is no other solution it seems like.
I like your idea.
Or even better, have police men come to school as visiting faculty. So they make extra money.

It's the same stand that NRA took after sandy hook elementary school incident. But it's sick. NRA campaigns for this cuz they hv to sell weapons. But why in Pak? Don't you have to train your kids to stay away from guns? Instead you are talking about upbringing them in the shadow of guns and then keeping ridiculous hope that they won't take it in their hands?! a place where probably 60%-70% (my guess) of people own gun, kids are always used to living around it. Whats wrong in training them. We all got NCC training, we don't carry gun. Many of us got defibrillator training, we dot not carry defibrillator with us.
IMO, teachers should be trained and there should be a locker in principal's room carrying couple of guns if not more.
This is a extreme measure but these are extreme circumstances. In ideal situation, i'd not favor this.

In an ideal world, teachers should have nothing to do with guns especially around kids and it is pathetic idea but unfortunately it's an extreme step taken for an extreme situation. Where else in the world do we see animals going into the schools with guns, grenades, suicide jackets?

Not a good idea to keep guns in classrooms, but if guns are kept in a gun room, away from kids, then it does make sense to me. In an incident like APS, security forces, however heavily armed and trained they are, would be useless if they are going to take 20 minutes to reach the scene. However, an even semi-trained teacher may be able to do something more than just telling kids to cower down.

Whats worse? terrorists storming a school and students/teachers becoming sitting ducks while waiting for commandos? or trained teachers running to the gun room, getting hold of weapons, and assisting school security guards to some degree?
In an ideal world, there would be no weapons anywhere, but this is certainly better than doing nothing. Even if one kid's life can be saved through this, it worth it.

We don't know..
But at least we are thinking. Any one with better idea should write an email to PTI they would love to have ideas to secure the schools.
Perhaps trained dogs ?
Any ways, how could we ever justify not doing any thing about it ?
