Teacher rating scales

anyone as students, how honestly do you fill them in?
your thoughts around the purpose of such evaluations tool?

I think they are a reasonably accurate tool to get a general idea about someone...

Like, majority of the teachers would get a nice average mark which would be a 3.5 - 4 out of 5 in general.... so it tells you that the teacher is ok... but its a really good way to pinpoint someone thats really bad. I doubt if a really bad teacher would get an average score like the rest.... and bad could be someone who doesnt get along well with students, has communication problems/bad n hard to understand accents etc... lack of knowledge, not very helpful etc.

I think they are a good way to judge a teacher... I try and fill them out as accurate as possible,,, especially if I have a definite opinion about a teacher... if I cant be bothere and I know that the teacher was okayish,,, you'd get that average 3-4 out of 5 for most.

Not sure about the purpose exactly but I'm, assuming its to keep track of teacher performance by the managers/supervisors and getting an idea of whether the teacher is ok/above average or below average in particular areas.... where the room for improvement is and then use it to propose a development plan for them.

I think most average/good scores would be ignored... its the low scores they are looking for to see where the teacher/course is lacking and how it can be improved.

Re: Teacher rating scales

I am pretty honest about the teacher in the forms. I do however say that if its an average teacher but still makes an effort to try to explain the material well, he/she gets good points from me.
This time I do intend to give less points to one teacher who is teaching the class to himself…I literally mean you can hear crickets in the class:smack:

Re: Teacher rating scales

Depends on the class, if the class is extremely boring and the subject matter is important, I do write what I think is the problem in the comments section.

Re: Teacher rating scales

depends on the class. if i really hated the way the material was taught, then id write my heart out. but if im getting good grades, no complaints, then 4 or 5 stars all the way

Re: Teacher rating scales

now they have websites out whwre ppl are rating their profs, what d u guys think about those?

Re: Teacher rating scales

^^ Problem with those sites is that most of the time people only go to those sites to rant/complaint about there professors and you (mostly) only hear horrible stories. someone who is happy with their grades/professors will never go to those sites to even look anyone up.

still they do help, if u check the reviews of previous teachers u had, more or less u would agree with them.
