Tea tree oil diluted or not diluted?!

I was gonna use it for my acne and acne scars since i got the bodyshop one and it says its diluted and only 15% of tea tree oil in it, but i also found one in Holland and barett which comes in 100%. Which one would be better, pure or diluted version?

Re: Tea tree oil diluted or not diluted?!

You're not going to put it on your whole face. You're only going to apply a drop on scars. If you want, you could even mix a drop of tea tree oil (which can be drying) in some lotion or cream and apply it to your face.

Yeah im not gona put it on all over my face just on cheeks and forhead abit..but i was confused about to use a diluted one which contains alchol and other stuff or pure one? like the body shop one is diluted so....Confused:(

Re: Tea tree oil diluted or not diluted?!

Do you have really sensitive skin? Because tea tree oil can be drying....however if you don't think that will be a problem for you...then you should be okay. I've used tea tree oil several times, but I mix it in my shampoo.

You could even mix a couple of drops of TTO in your toner...and apply that on your face and THEN moisturize. This method may be less harsh. Or mix it in to your lotion/cream...that way you're getting some moisturization on your skin whereas apply TTO straight to your skin and nothing else will be harsher. IMO go with the 100%. But you have to do what suits your skin and you'd know that better than me.

Dilute from Body Shop is fine. 15% is appropriate for applying direct to skin. And even then spot apply.

The 100% from H&B is not good quality. It's meant for diluting i.e. adding a few drops to bath water or for cleaning.

Tea tree oil is very strong and many people react badly to it, for example contact dermatitis.

Additionally, tea tree oil is only good for active acne. Like you would spot apply to an active spot.

Witch hazel or Lavender floral water will be better as a toner for acne skin. And as discussed in the other thread, Rosehip oil for the scars.

Diluting Tea Tree oil is incredibly difficult because it doesn't mix with water, hence the body shop one being diluted in alcohol. To be honest, I used to use it but have gone off it, even for spot treating. I think it does more harm than good to the skin because it's quite harsh. For active acne (to get rid of the pus head for example) you can spot treat with 3% hydrogen peroxide.
