yeah I think there was a thread by Nadia_H in the image gallery where she posted some reallly cool picture from Taxila, and it included discussion on the city.

I grew up in Taxila..and there are so many nice things about the city to be wrapped up in just couple of paras..

I visited Taxila in 1991. It amazing place. I liked the Gandhara museum and there are lots of budhist ara idols there.

The archaeological museum at Taxila is a real treasure house. Its collection of coins, jewellery, relics, and gold and silver caskets alone are worth a King’s ransom. But its real glory comes from stone and stucco that exquisite young. Its impressive collection will help you get to know gautama, the Lord Buddha, and budhism.

One of the mind blowing things about Taxila is its gothicism, coupled with its striking natural beauty...there are some popular places such as the museum and some of the popular remains where all the tourists go, and then there are many not so well known - you actually have to be familiar with the area to know those places..and when ever you go and stand in the middle of those ruins, it's almost like the time hasn't moved for thousands of years.

Plus, it's in close proximity of all the mountainous destinations of Pakistan, so it's a charm to be there in every season. Taxila is definitely one of the best places, if anyone is planning to settle in Pak..

I have been going to Taxila all my life... Be it those numerous school trips / dads colleagues / accompanying foriegners etc etc, and I must say there is so much history to the place.

However, its sad that the Government is neglecting this historic city. The walls of Sricup, just like Moenjodaro and Harrapa need attention. They have stood up for so long, but now due to pollution, mismanagement, and some ignorant people they need serious attention. Jolian is a little better gaurded since we have to go up quite a distance to get to it.

I also read in 'The News' that during the time of Nawaz Sharif, alot of the artifacts were sent to Japan for a museum showing, and what was returned were imitations of those artifacts. Sad isnt it?

my phoopa worked for the heavy industry thingy there for 15 years he moved out last year. its a beautiful place but it has changed alot to when i went b4 last year which was 5 years b4 that.
