I’m from the UK. I know for a fact pakistanies take advantage of USA and British people when paying for services x5 at times!
I would like to know whats the average cost for taxi from 1 end of the city to another end approx?

Up untill last year (2006) the costs depended on time of day and situation in city on not who is asking unless you are asking in Ainglesh and dressed as such. Plus the first few times you ask they will know you are from abroad but when you get into the local lingo and mood after a few times then it should be fine.
You almost always have to bargain and be confident when countering the asking price...
there are no metered cabs (other than radio cabs that charge an arm and a leg) so you have to haggle...
I paid the following last year (2006) on different days...
all prices are one way..
1. Gulshan to North Nazimabad Rs. 80 -100
2. Gulshan to Clifton (Near Bilawal house) Rs. 300 (morning office/school rush hour)
3. Gulshan to Airport Rs - 120 - 150 (You can Airport white cabs as well they charge 300 I think but are AC cabs)
4. Gulshan to Steel Mill Rs. 400 (morning rush hour)
5. Sadar to North Nazimabad Rs. 120 - 150
6. Defence to Gulshan Rs. 150 - 200
Expect inflationary increase of 20% due to petrol/CNG prices going up...

^Don't know....but since Lahore is a smaller city than Karachi, I would guess, no more than 500-600. But you should ask some one from Lahore...
