This afternoon my mum put some biriyani for dum in oven and the whole house is filled with the smell of it and it takes to me to Pakistan particularly to the shaadi halls.
Whenever I eat fish and chips I always think of friday lunch times at school as that what was always serves.
And whenever I eat masala fries at home I was think of the fries wala of karachi and me and my cousin used to sit on the balcony and munch fries in the cool summer breeze.
**i once read a paper in one of the journals. their research establishes a link between 'smell' and 'memory'...how the brain triggers a memory in the sub-conscious is NOT known but it does.
mere saath aksar hotaa hai k koi mahek mujhe koi bahooot puraanii baat yaad dilaa detii hai jo mere zehn meN door door tak kahiiN nahiiN hotii :)**
My mum always used to grow her own hara dhaniya mainly in the autumn, and it was my job to pick some for dinner.Whenever I smell wet or damp dhaniya,it take me back to those far away days..sniff....
The other thing is khuskha rice (/dal) with kachumbar.Lunch times in Karachi, when our whole clan would be together, khala would make this for us all....
Qorma and sheer maal reminds me of family weddings in Pakland in shaamiyaane.....
Shepherds Pie takes me back to school dinners...yukkkk....
I'm sure I'll remember some more...it's funny how certain foods trigger these memories
