Due to some problems in the registry, I had to format my computer and reinstall windows xp professional. I did that and it was working fine. Everything was fast and life was good. Then the computer updated itself to service pack 2 and that caused the taskbar (where the start menu is) disappear! So I uninstalled service pack 2 and got my taskbar back.
Now, everything loads up fast, the desktop icons etc. However, after I see the desktop icons, it takes about a couple of minutes for the icons by the time (bottom right) to load up. What do they wait for? Is there any way I can tweak that up a little?
It may not be something taking a lot of CPU or memory usage when its on, but while its starting its doing some checking or scanning etc. What AV software is that?
Check your Startup folder or the "Run" key in the registry. Check the startup folder for ur account as well as All Users startup.
Sorry I am dumb when it come to registries etc I tried to find startup and run folder but couldn’t find them. Could you tell me the exact location if you don’t mind, please?
Did you install a wireless hardware i.e d-link etc,,, if yes! then check the output kbps 11 + may be its attempting to upgrade to 22 kbps online in a loop.

ignore the PSFRee gizzy :-) thats not the concern..
sighz
acha sohail miyan, do this:
start > run > msconfig then the window pops up saying SYSTEM CONFIGURATION UTLITY .. go to the tab called STARTUP and take away EVERY CHECKUP, accept PSFREE i'm talking about powerprofile, systray, EVEN msnmsgr..
press ok/accept whatever, it will ask to restart or continue without restart.. restart it ..
this will ONLY take care of the starting up programs.
Service pack 2 has some major problems so never install it. it is like a open door for hackers.
the taskbar problem is not a major problem its just that there could be spyware on the computer that you got after installing SP2 so delete that or your system ram is very low which also is a problem. post your system specs here.
i learned this from experience that never use free spyware programs. what they do is for the first couple of days it will work fine but after that to try to get you to but the program it will attract spyware on purpose. go to stopzilla.com and download this for spyware stopper. its not free you only pay $20.00 for the entire year.
when ever you run your scans for spyware or for virus do it in safemode its the only may to get better results.
i dont think you should ignore gizzy at all this may solve the problem but most of the time it wont all it does is it wont run those programs you did not select but all the spyware will still run. also i have nearly 20-25 things running in my start up but my computer starts instantly because i have so much ram over 1 gig
And I have 384 ram. It should be more than enough because it used to be fine with that, only after I formatted and reinstalled windows, it started doing that :-s
Thanks for help everyond :k: I guess I can live with slow startup, not that I am losing something
