Taseer.. Hot or Cold

So on my short trip to Pakistan, I stayed with MIL and all my khalas were over for a few days and all they went on about what i was eating..Yeh Garam hai, ye mat khao … Ye thanda hai ye khao ..

I don’t think they meant it on the basis of the food temperature but more the effect it has on the temperature of your body..

so all in all.. Anything I put in my mouth was stopped with yeh na khao .. or plates full of yoghurt and cups of milk shoved in my face as it;s Taseer thandi hai.. Milk was a no no for me .. I just wretched at the smell of Milk from Pk and Yoghurt was tolerable ..

The things snatched away or tut tutted at were Pakoras, Samosa, Pepsi, Chai, Green team Coffee and Spicy Salans, Halva ..

I actually didn’t mind too much of the no’s and yes as these were all mothers of 4 if not more kids so something had worked for them and all of them do care for me..

This post is more to understand does anyone believe in this and what is your experience of what foods to eat to conceive and what to avoid..

Re: Taseer.. Hot or Cold

This is also something I have come accross - from MIL/Mum and a range of others!
Think there has been threads on this in the past too, but yeh I would also like to find out rationale behind this. The foods I have been told not to eat are;

Dates
Cashews/Peanuts and the like
Salmon
Turkey
Aubergine
Chocolate
Coffee

And probably a lot more.............

Re: Taseer.. Hot or Cold

when I was young, I used to eat a lot of chicken, and I got my period right before I turned 11. All the ladies in my family kept saying that I got my period so early because chicken is "hot". But I think there may be some truth to some of these foods. One summer I was in Pakistan, I had gotten my period that month already - but since it was summer, we were eating mangoes all the time, and I got my period a second time. My mom said it was because I ate so many mangoes.

So I will add to the list:

Chicken
Mangoes

But, I was watching an episode of Dr. Oz once, and milk (full fat milk - not skim) does help in conceiving. I think it was called the hormone diet....cant remember exactly though. Also, I remember butter was on that list too!

Re: Taseer.. Hot or Cold

my accupuncturist was talking to me about this.

i told him i was always feeling cold and one of the first things he told me was to stop eating cold food (doh! LOL), especially during my menstral cycle.

My mother had always told me this - not to eat/drink any cold things during your menses. I never listened to her and thought it was an old wives tale.

But the accupuncturist told me the same thing. He said the cold body temerature, along with the cold foods constrict your blood vessels and therefore blood will not circulate properly. Proper blood circulation is necessary for the lining of the uterus, for implatation.

there is a thread like this in Household as well.

Auntis have always told me not to feed the husband too much eggs because they are Garam.

Re: Taseer.. Hot or Cold

Hi,

This is what we (Chinese) consider as cold foods.

  • cabbage and his families
  • watermelon
  • any cold drinks
  • bitter melon
  • cucumber
  • pumpkin
  • tea (that is why after eating oily foods we chinese took chinese tea - it's for cooling down the body )

I'm a cold person too. I always turn on the heater and wearing socks at home.

ugh - i need to ask my mother for more information. :)

My husband's family business is of tea even he says too much tea is not good for health it affects your hormones and conceiving may become difficult..green tea is good but not in excess..
All these have garam taseer:
Ajwain
Dates
Mangoes
Kalonji
Fish
Eggs
Chocolate
Coffee

Re: Taseer.. Hot or Cold

That's interesting. When I had breakouts...I was told that it's because I'm too "warm" and that I need to eat more "cooling" foods, etc. However, at the same time....I get cold easily. I'll take a light sweater with me to the movies and other places cuz they tend to be cool. So that alone would make more more "cold?"

Re: Taseer.. Hot or Cold

I always keep a check on the coldness or warmness or foods as I'm quite sensitive to warm foods and they give me allergies. For me, tea and green tea are not warm, they only warm the body initially but after few hours they cause the body temperature to drop.

I find Cashew nuts and Walnuts to be the warmest foods. Non fried chicken is not warm at all and so is pepsi. I find melons and papaya to be the coldest fruits. Non sweet Malt drinks also have a very cold taseer.

Re: Taseer.. Hot or Cold

Thansk everyone for the updates ...

I am shying away from tea and coffee now ...

I think I need to cut down on Tuna/Fish too

Re: Taseer.. Hot or Cold

My mum tells me the same time and I refuse to listen to her .. :s Maybe there is something in there?!
