tasbeeh

the act of reading alhamdolillah and subhanAllah 33 times each and Allahoakbar 34 times to finish one tasbeeh, where and when did this particular sequence originate?

Re: tasbeeh

i believe there is an hadith associated with this....soemthing about how the prophet (pbuh) was telling someone to do this.

Re: tasbeeh

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah [ra] narrated that RASUL’ULLAH [SAW] said: “The one who says Subhan’ALLAH after every Salaah-Prayer 33 times, Al-ham’du-lillah 33 times, and Allahu-Akbar 33 times, making it 99 times in all, and to complete the 100 says La-ilaha ill-ALLAH wah’dahu la sha’reeka lahu, lahu mulku wa la-hul hamdu wa huwa ala kulle shay’een qadeer, will have his sins forgiven by ALLAH, even if they are as abundant as the foam of the sea.” (Muslim; Ahmad)

ALSO i read:

Tasbee of Sayyida Fatima (A.S.)
-34 times – Allahu Akber ( Allah is greater than anything and anyone)

-33 times – Alhamdulliah (Refer to sura Alhamd)

-33 times – Subhanallah (Which comes from the arabic word Sabha which means to swim. It’s actually glorifying Allah (s.w.t) by swimming in his thoughts)

Bibi Fatima (a.s) used to run her house without much help; Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W) could see how hard his daughter worked at home. One day he said he would give her something that would be better than a helper or anything else she wished in this world, this is when he gives her the gift of this Tasbeeh and its is known as tasbeeh of Fatimatuz Zehra. This Tasbeeh is recommended to be read after every namaaz.

Imam Bakir (a.s) says whoever performs the Tasbeeh of Bibi Fatima (a.s) and asks Allah (s.w.t) for forgiveness, Allah (s.w.t) will forgive him or her a hundrend times, will add a thousand good deeds to their scale, repel shaitan and be pleased with him or her.

Imam Jaffer Sadiq (a.s) says whoever does Tasbeeh of Bibi Fatima (a.s.) before they move their legs or unfold their legs from the position of sitting in wajib salaah, Allah (s.w.t) forgives them and makes Jannah wajib upon them. Imam also says that Tasbeeh of Bibi Fatima (a.s) after every wajib salaa is more loved then praying a thousand rakats everyday. He cotinues to say whoever does the Tasbeeh of Bibi Fatima (a.s) after every salaah and ends it by saying La illaha illalah, Allah (s.w.t) will forgive his or her sins.

When Hazrat Hamza was martyred, Bibi Fatima (a.s) took some earth from his grave and moulded it into beads and she used that as her Tasbeeh. Before this event she would use a blue woollen string that was knotted and that was the customary Tasbeeh before the martyrdom of Hazrat Hamza. After that it became customary to make beads from clay.

found this info on an islamic website. Allah knows best. Hope this sheds some light!

Re: tasbeeh

Praise be to Allaah
The dhikr after salaah referred to in the question has been reported in a hadeeth reported by Abu Hurayrah from the Messenger of Allaah

http://www.islam-qa.com/images/saws.gif

(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Whoever glorifies Allaah (says Subhaan Allaah) thirty-three times immediately after each prayer, and praises Allaah (says Al-hamdu Lillaah) thirty-three times, and magnifies Allaah (says Allaahu akbar) thirty-three times, this makes ninety-nine, then to complete one hundred says Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer (There is no god except Allaah Alone, with no partner, His is the power and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things) – his sins will be forgiven even if they are like the foam of the sea.” (Reported by Muslim, 939).
A number of different descriptions of the dhikr after salaah have been narrated, an example of which has been referred to in the question. The evidence for this is the hadeeth of ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: “The Messenger of Allaah

http://www.islam-qa.com/images/saws.gif

(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘There are two qualities, no Muslim man acquires them but he will enter Paradise, and they are simple and easy. He should glorify Allaah (say Subhaan Allaah) ten times immediately after each prayer, and praise Him (say Al-hamdu Lillaah) ten times and magnify Him (say Allaahu akbar) ten times.’ I saw the Messenger of Allaah

http://www.islam-qa.com/images/saws.gif

(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) counting this on his fingers. He said: ‘That makes one hundred and fifty on the tongue, and one thousand five hundred (hasanaat) in the scales. [Translator’s note: each of three phrases repeated ten times makes thirty; multiplied by the number of daily prayers, which is five, makes one hundred and fifty. Each of these good deeds of the tongue will be rewarded with ten hasanaat which will be added to the total of good deeds to be weighed in the balance or scales on the Day of Judgement]. When you go to bed, glorify Him and praise Him and magnify Him one hundred times: that will be one hundred on the tongue and a thousand in the scales. Who among you does two thousand and five hundred sayi’aat (bad deeds) in one day?’ They said: ‘How could we not count (our sins)?’ He said: ‘The Shaytaan comes to any one of you whilst he is praying and says, Remember this, remember that, until he finishes his prayer and does not do (this dhikr), or he comes to him when he is lying down and makes him sleepy, until he falls asleep (without doing this dhikr).’” (Abu ‘Eesaa said: This is a hasan saheeh hadeeth. Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 3332).
Among the adhkaar that may be recited before going to sleep, as referred to in the question, is that reported in the hadeeth of ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said that Faatimah (upon whom be peace) came to the Prophet

http://www.islam-qa.com/images/saws.gif

(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and asked him for a servant. He said, “Shall I not tell you of something that is better for you than that? When you go to sleep, say ‘Subhaan Allaah’ thirty-three times, ‘Al-hamdu Lillah’ thirty-three times, and ‘Allaahu akbar’ thirty four times.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 4943).
As regards counting this tasbeeh, the Sunnah is to use the fingers of the right hand, although it is permitted to use the left hand. The evidence that the right hand is preferable was reported by Abu Dawood (may Allaah have mercy on him), who said: “ ‘Ubayd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar ibn Maysarah and Muhammad ibn Qudaamah, among others, told us: ‘Aththaam told us from al-A’mash from ‘Ataa’ ibn al-Saa’ib from his father from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr who said: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allaah

http://www.islam-qa.com/images/saws.gif

(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) counting the tasbeeh.’ Ibn Qudaamah said: ‘With his right hand.’” (Sunan Abi Dawood, Kitaab al-Salaat, Baab al-Tasbeeh bi’l-hasaa).
It was said in Haashiyat al-Tahtaawi: “It is correct that he

http://www.islam-qa.com/images/saws.gif

(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to count the tasbeeh on his right hand. It was reported that he said: ‘Count with your finger tips, for they will be asked and they will be made to speak.’ Ibn Hijr said: Counting the tasbeeh with the fingertips is better than using the subhah (prayer-beads or “rosary”).

Re: tasbeeh

Peace Femme Fatale

Recently I have been looking quite deeply at this word ... Tasbeeh. It is related to two other words ... Talbiya and Takbir ... The activites behind each of these are repetitive recitation. May be there are more of these.

It is very important to bring routine and regular remembrance back into our lives. The path to becoming conscious of Allah (SWT). I think it is a loaded subject matter, but people are not interested in the little simple things any more like dhikr, we want to jump to levels of fiqh when we cannot even control our thoughts and feelings properly.

Nice question ... and keep pondering ... Perhaps you can look to see if you can find the hadith Afshi has referred to?

Re: tasbeeh

JazakAllah Khair

Re: tasbeeh

i think, my own feeling, is that it was originally 33 times each the tasbeeh, the tahmeed and the takbeer, and then "la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shareeka lahu........." to make it 100, but since ppl cud not remember the long tasbeeh at the end to complete the 100 they replaced it with a simple takbeer....
so that ppl wont just leave it cuz they cud not memorize the long zikr....

Re: tasbeeh

thank you very much all of you. jazak'Allah.

Re: tasbeeh

One naration also tells us that it is 33 times each Subhan Allah, Alhamdo Lillah, Allah-o-Akbar and then at the end to read "Subhan Allahey walhamdo LillahaY walaa ilaahaa illal-laaho wallaho Akbar Wala haula wala Quwata Illa billahil ali-yil adheem"

Re: tasbeeh

Well that makes it easier since I know it off by heart :hula:

Re: tasbeeh

Here you go

Re: tasbeeh

issaY kehtaY haiN

SawaaL gandum, jawaab channaa

Re: tasbeeh

PA can you point out where it mentions anything about the sequence of zikr that I asked about?

Re: tasbeeh

PakistaniAbroad…Your favourite remark… " Where does it say that? "

:clown:

Re: tasbeeh

well I pointed out the 'origin'.. all other imitations like the rosary came much later.. tasbeeh is too late to the party.. so it's anyone's guess who conjured up the sequences and *jaaps *to go with it.

Re: tasbeeh

^ohh...this thread is about tasbeeh means glorification of Allah.

and you are talking about prayer beads.

Re: tasbeeh

Actually that was my concern, if it could be traced back to the Holy Prophet :saw: or if it originated hundreds of yrs later in the subcontinent somewhere.
