How to practice it? What are those main things one should do to practice tasawuff? Do we need to have a mentor for that or we can practice it all by ourselves?

I can not tell you how to practice it but do know where to find in depth information on the lives of people who practiced it…these are lectures in Urdu narrated by Maulana Mukhtar Shah Naeemi Ashrafi on the lives of Saints Auliya Allah stories on youtube:
first the story in series of 118 I listened to was of Hazrat Rabia Basri story number is 36, it is most fascinating!
after that the story of Maulana Jamaluddin Rumi and Shams Tabrez will impress how Tasawuff is practised!
