In Hindi it is called Tripakshiya Varta, don't know urdu:)

wow! i must have included Hindi as well.

nice but doesn't vaartaa mean dialogues...like we say vaartaalaap [for discussions] committee is a bit different! Committee bhii Hindi Urdu men bolaa jaataa hai magar i'm looking for an equivalent Urdu or Hindi word.

wouldn't it be "tripakshiye samiti"? can you confirm that?

for the benefit of all readers: *tri = tri; pakshya = party; pakshiiye = partite; samiti = committee *?]

teen rukni committee (committee is used in urdu literature too :snooty: )

yeah, as i replied to Kaur, the word committee is widely used in Urdu but i’m looking for an Urdu word here. :slight_smile: RUKI? i’m sure u meant ‘RUKNI’ :slight_smile: it was a typo on your part! :slight_smile:

panchaayat is NOT quite the word…it’s more Hindi in it’s origin than Urdu…it’s used in Urdu widely though…good choice! :slight_smile:

I think majlis is committee.

hmmm…shoora! i doubt it because it means mahsswarat and committee is different.

the word is manch [short for machaan] which means platform [a raised surface]. raaje mahaaraje and shikaarii pahle ke zamaane meN peRoN par khaTole kaa machaan baandhte the jis par baiTh kar peR ke neeche bandhe huye jaanwar ko khaane aanewaale she’r cheeta kaa shikaar kiyaa karte the.
