why don't target heart rate calculations take GENDER into account?
Re: Target Heart Rate
well for medical point of view gender does play some role but for fitness and dieting it doesn't coz the difference is minimal.
Age | Maximum Heart Rate
20 Male: 200 | Female: 208
25 Male: 195 | Female: 201
30 Male: 190 | Female: 196
35 Male: 185 | Female: 191
40 Male: 180 | Female: 186
45 Male: 175 | Female: 181
50 Male: 170 | Female: 175
55 Male: 165 | Female: 171
60 Male: 160 | Female: 166
65 Male: 155 | Female: 161

your resting heart rate can be calculated using the equation 220-age and to calculate your target heart rate you just multiply the difference by the percentage...
usually you have to keep your heart rate between 85% n 65% of RHR and you just multiply this % with the difference (220-age)
ex:
0.85 x (220-age)
