This Q have been at the back of my mind and its kind of an insecurity although i love my complexion personally, i just am not confident enough even though Qasim Yar Tiwana himself once told me that tan is the new in and we’re making all our models look more tan because of the beauty.
Sometimes i just feel our society is driven more by fair complexioned ladies and for old aunties and all, thats the icing on the cake! =/ - although i have straight features and what they call it perfect “nain-naksh”?
anyways since I wish to look ‘O EMM JEE’ on my big day, i have been struggling to decide what my bridal dress colour should be for the first day as some colours just really put me off!
PS. I have a warm skin tone which is complimented by yellow undertones.
I don't think that light complexion is the key to look gorgeous. if you feel confident and relax, you'll look good no matter what. so don't worry :)
Whatever colour you choose, make sure you're 100% happy with it. Don't just wear it cause it's 'IN'.
There were some really nice pics of Sunita Marshal getting married on here a while back.. she didn't bother 'lightening up' and she looked lovely.. Gulzaeb Beg Ali was tan on her wedding day and she looked great as well :)
What’s bothering me is that my honey wala would like me to wear white/cream/ivory which is a colour that I’ve detested on my skin since I was a little girl.
The traditional deep red will always compliment my skin tone and I do want that, accented with golds/bronzes.
You’ll glow on your day no matter what your skin tone - and with the proper make-up and photography, hopefully things shouldn’t go wrong.
:O both of those women aren't even dark! Oh myyy days. This Is why people have issues with there skin tone. Someone whose slightly brown/tanned (considering were south Asian this shouldn't come as a surprise) there labeled dark!

they arnt dark but tan yes .. and im tan too .. although some complexions tend to darken cuz of the lighting or the colour the ladies wear.
dark dark would fall into african american and i personally have a crush on Naomi Campbell heheh
i just noticed that you and me said the same thing lol .. just tht i have invory/off white as an option but yes red shud defo compliment! get off white with red borders or a red dupatta!
Aaliyah1, I agree but for a traditional desi bride they'd be considered it.. To a normal person (even non-desis) they'd be considered medium tone.. Our minds have been a bit warped by photos of the sterotypical whitened-up Pakistani/Indian/Bengali brides.. I had a photo somewhere of a desi bridal magazine with a browner bride on the cover and was thinking how rare that is lol, will have a look so I can scan it here..
It's So true you never see any actual asian toned brides in magazines. It's ridiculous. Beauty comes in all colours and tones. Yeah I totally agree that these girls would probably be mediumish but I'd never describe there colour as dark. Ufffff what has our society come to? Makes me so angry that we hate on ourselves so much...

SIGH - but apart from all the fair rant I AM SO PROUD THAT IV BEEN MADE THIS WAY.
haha even though i was nothing dark or black but yes mediumish - my friends used to call me black beauty and i used to dig it :)
new year resolution - ipod to have track 'im sexy and i know it!' ;)
n honestly iv found myself looking more at tan brides/ladies than the fair ones .. they have their own thing but so do we .. cheers!
There are no tan/dark brides when it comes to your big day..so choose colors for a blonde bride and leave the rest for your MUA, at least, this is what i have seen throughout my life
being light skinned doesn't mean that you look pretty...ESPECIALLy when you are not naturally light skinned and put make up on...
Every skin shade has it's beauty..
I rmmbr seeing kids back home with white powder on their faces that their mothers put on their face when they get them ready..to make them look fairer lol
Let me tell you a anecdote..
My khala (mom's sister), who is sanwli (tan) was getting married and she went to the salon to get ready...after the MUA was done..my khala looked at herself went quietly to the bathroom and washed her face completely....you can imagine the reaction of the MUA...
And my khala said to the MUA that I am not paying you to make me look whiter than I am...I am paying you to make me look like a bride..I am completely comfortable with my skin color and I want you to work with that...
My khala looked absolutely beautiful...so honestly just work with what you have...the glow you will get from being happy and confident in your skin and being comfortable with what you are will make you the most gorgeous of brides...
I have a darker-than-average-Pakistani complexion and I looooooooooove it. Its winter here and I think I'm pale LOL... I love a dewy, healthy, bronzey glow.
Personally I think a cream/raspberry red outfit would look just stunning on tanned skin.
