As per the grapevine, Salman Peerzada did try to push for a release for “Zar Gul” recently but it’s gotten in trouble with the censors for its depiction of corruption in police force and for its honest portrayal of the feudal/political class.

The theme of the film is very subversive, anti-authority, so there’s little surprise there. The Pakistani censors have once again proven their effectiveness in curtailing creativity in cinema – though they have NO issues letting pathetic cinema from Bombay into the theatres. Another reason why local film makers hesitate to make movies – even if they end up making something worthwhile, they stand to lose their massive investment if the censors aren’t happy.
