in islam, i think we are not supposed to see and talk to guys or girls in person who are “na-mehram” for us, right? if we can’t see them (not in these days, but i am talking about keeping old days in mind), can we talk to them on the phone? i mean we are not looking at them it’s just that we are talking. is it ok in islam or not?
i probably did a very poor job getting my point across but i hoped you all understood what i was trying to ask. please correct me if i am wrong. thanx in advance.
Shikra, I know that "purda" is a popular aspect of Islam but you know what? God is also practical enough to give human beings the leeway to speak with members of the opposite sex provided it is not done with ill intentions. What I am saying is that I don't think there are any hard and fast rules that say well this is it, do it or else! Hope tht makes sense.
well dear shikra,,
there are many things defined for that matter,,
and infact its quite a serious issue also..
well its something like that you can talk only if your voice is lust free and the conversation is point to point, without any ill intentions, and for females it is to keep there voice free of feelings , and making there voice a bit firm so that the male they are talking to doesnt get attracted to there voice and then wishes to see them also...
ill try to find some material regarding that, and INSHA ALLAH illpost that also..
Conversation with a non-mehram should be strictly to the point, not be seductive or made attractive or casual. There should be purdah so to speak between those who converse.
thanx for the replies. i understand the voice issue. i was asking this question because i have some female friends in other states and sometimes i call them and we talk about general stuff, how are you, how's school, what are you up to, and bla bla bla.......nothing romantic or nothing lusty.......that's why i was just curious :)
thanx sheraz. so if i understood correctly, we can talk to them on the phone, but it’s only that we can’t be with them or can’t go out with them, right
