An interesting catch by our own GSBot. I was excited to read all the details but got disappointed when I saw that the technology will not be available for next 10 years.
General Motors is working on a new vehicle communications system that could help avert up to 81 percent of crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The system uses small mobile devices, like smart phone applications, to gather information about the vehicle’s surroundings. The system could alert the driver of stalled vehicles on the side of the road, drivers who are abruptly stopping, averse road conditions and even stop signs and stop lights before the hazards come into view. GM is already testing the system in two ways - with a small dash-mounted transponder and a smartphone application that integrates with the vehicle’s in-dash display.

The system uses dedicated short-range communications, or DSRC, to transfer data between similar devices within a quarter-mile radius. In addition, the system can communicate with fixed radios connected to traffic lights or construction zones.

GM says that the tech could arrive in the automaker’s vehicles in as little as a decade. If it works as promised, the technology could not only keep us out of a fender bender, but it could also alleviate traffic congestion and help drivers get where they’re going more efficiently. Oh , the one where I can sit back and relax and read my newspaper and the car will drive me to my destination using GPS as navigation system like drones.
That technology is sadly available in Pakistan but it is not so common in US . You know what I am talking about ?

In Pakistan people can afford to hire a driver for car but in US it is not so easy .

I meant a personal driver, called chauffeur in western part of the world. In Pakistan many people can afford a driver but in West even millionaire can’t afford to hire a chauffeur.

Talking of Rickshaws, the other day I was driving back from uni and suddenly I see a leg with a peshawari chappal flying out of a rickshaw.. going up and down in a wavy motion. And then the rickshaw sways right infront of the the car. I was confused for almost a second, till I realized that Khan Sahab was using his leg as an indicator. Yes He couldn’t use his hands. I know!

And what about the extra cautious types who don’t appreciate their cellular providers storing location history in the device, let alone knowingly sharing that information through airwaves in the future as a feature…
