I finally found it! I have been looking for years and years for a cheap and reliable way to speak to family in Pakistan. After spending at least $30,000 on phone bills over the past 15 years, I have found a cheap way that doesn’t compromise on sound quality (my biggest problem with phone cards and “Net2Phone” types).
It’s called Get-Call, run by a company called Click2Dial (www.click2dial.net). For $35/month, they provided me with a local number in Karachi that is my own. Now, when someone in Karachi wants to talk to me, they dial the local number. It connects straight to my phone in the States and sounds like they live in the next neighborhood. I am not one to rave about this sort of stuff so take it from someone who knows, if you are interested in a cheap alternative and call regularly to Pakistan, this is for you. They also provide local numbers for Lahore, Islamabad, etc.
I can provide you link even cheaper than that. Your calls will be in Rupees and you will be making those calls as local not long distance. So basically if you call off peak (after 7:00PM Pak time which will be morning here in USA) it will cost you 1 rupee per minute and if you call peak hours (after 7:00AM Pak time which will be night time here in USA) it will cost you 2.75 rupee per minute. And if you call a cell phone than it will cost you 3.25 rupee per minute thats if the person you calling lives outside of 160KM from Lahore.
You can hook a normal phone its like the way vonage works but you have to make some changes to the box that you can buy from bestbuy or other stores. You can also use a softphone on your pc which can be downloaded from BrainTel website for free. The quality of voice is like I am talking to someone next door.
It does not matter what part of the world you are in…as long as you have high speed internet.
TUMS yup thats how it works but as I said if you want a normal phone hooked to it than you need to make some changes to the device but if you use your computer than just enter ur user and password plus braintel proxy and you are all set.
My last month bil was $16 as compare to when I used to buy phone cards and monthly bill used to be $100 to $150. Just last night I spoke to my family for almost an hour
I use Pakvoice.com. Unlimited calls from pakistan to USA, Canada or UK to my family for only $10 month. They also have a two way calling plan for 19.99 for unlimited calls. don't think there is a better service out there. I love it!
Try them, you'll like it.
