I don't understand why desi parents and the guy's family gets mad when you reject the proposal.
Im going through the same stuff and since we two families are really close, I do not know what to expect. I do not want to marry the guy :'(

i know a couple about whom my bro told me that they had and still do a very unhappy marriage but they have managed to live together for 32 years and raised great kids. :) May Allah BLESS the couple and their children...aameen

Don't be a martyr, you are doing nobody any favors by marrying someone you don't like. The same people who you are trying to please will be the first ones to turn your back on you at the first sign of any discontent or unhappiness once you are married. Once you sign the dotted line, it is officially YOUR problem. I have seen all too many times the obedient desi girl who ends up playing the victim card once they're married. Don't shun your God given rights. Contrary to popular opinion, there is no "Go straight to heaven" award for marrying someone just because your family wants you to. The real victim is the person you end up marrying.
