Nine Indians were amongst those killed in a series of bombings in the Afghan capital, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said on Friday, describing the blasts as “barbaric attacks” by those “desperate to undermine” ties between India and Afghanistan.
This is the third attack on Indian officials and interests in Afghanistan in the past 20 months. The attacks on the Indian embassy in July 2008 and October 2009 had killed Indian diplomats and officials besides several Afghan nationals.
talibs are more likely to attack, anti talib activity in afghanistan. although your diplomats are conducting some amount of anti-talib work, is it enough to warrant talib attention? i seriously think you should broaden your horizons as to who could be attacking you. and be realistic about the feasibility of your role there in the future
Yaar, with all due respect to the ones who died .. wth were they doing in Kabul? I personally believe that Afghanistan/Irag are not the places for any civilain non muslim to visit for any reason.
India has pledged $1.3 billion for reconstruction of the war-ravaged country that includes projects ranging from building roads to dams and power stations. I am guessing these people were working on reconstruction projects.
Dont know their religion, but I am guessing they were not killed because they were non-Muslims.
This seems to be a coincident that 9 Indians were dead, including Indian Muslim. But rest dead were local Afghani people. Bombs don't differentiate between Indians and other nationalities. Pakistan itself suffered thousands casualities including former PM BB of such cowardly attacks. No sane Muslim will support such barbarian act. In war against terror, Muslims are dying not Indians or other nationalities. Millions of Muslims have died whether drone attacks, critter bombs droped through B2 bombers, shelling villages from halicopters, suicide bombings etc. Majority Muslims have died in these attacks were/are innocent people.
Indians are helping? Seems more like their trying to undermine Pakistan...
What have we helped with? What rock have you been hiding behind for the past 20 odd years? Pakistan has taken Millions of their refugees and given them a place to work and live. If it weren't for Pakistan, Afghanis would have no place to live. If it weren't for Pakistan, it would be the Soviet republic of Afghanistan.
If Indians are so saintly, why didnt they take the millions of Afghan refugees?
India has never had to deal with any of the problems emanating from Afghanistan, but are always the first in line when they can earn possible profit.
Such is life in a conflict zone. When you agree to go there, you do infact agree to deal with, death and destruction. Yes it is a shame. But the Indian government should have done more to protect its people.
It is more like saying why the hell somebody got killed in middle of battle ground!!! don't want to die, don't visit Afghanistan... as a matter of fact, 23 or more police-men were butchered by Naxals or one of the forces fighting for separate homeland somewhere in India.. i think India should try to provide security to its service men/officials in India First and then talk about officials on the foreign lands..
few months back i was reading a column in which the writer has mentioned that there are more than 2 dozen consulates of india in afghanistan. the question is what kind of "economic activity" is going on in the war torn country
*In January, India completed building the 218km Zaranj-Delaram highway in south-west Afghanistan near the Iranian border. *
** In May, an India-made power transmission line to Kabul and a sub-station were opened, bringing 24-hour electricity to the capital for the first time in 17 years.
The new parliament building in Kabul and a new dam in Herat should be ready by next year
It is digging tube wells in six provinces, running sanitation projects and medical missions, and working on lighting up 100 villages using solar energy
** India has also given at least three Airbus planes to Afghanistan’s ailing national airline
anybody can 'raise a question' as long as they are doing that to learn the truth. These Indians and hundreds of others are in Afghanistan helping them build roads, institutional buildings etc. I think Indians are building or built the Afghan parliament or something similar.
Now if the question was asked with mischievous intent, I will add that our Pakistani friends can rest assured that if and when Pakistan requires similar assistance, India will be glad to assist the same way.
