Re: Taliban's demands
The timing of COAS's visit to Saudi Arabia is very significant. I personally don't like the idea of holding Peace Talks with Taliban while the Army Chief is out of the country.

Let’s see how the authorities respond to these, however.
Most of these demands are expectedly preposterous.
Re: Taliban’s demands
Some of them can be done, like development of FATA etc. If its a give and take, then a middle ground can be struck somewhere

Establish uniformity of rights of rich and poor.
Formally renounce supporting America and its war on terror.
Only these two are valid the rest is all garbage not even worth mentioning
Re: Taliban’s demands
Agreed. Tough decisions ahead, this much is certain.
Having said that, it does feel that these economic type of demands are just pad up to the real deals of freeing prisoners, dropping all charges against TTP and all that.

Idiotic set of demands. But what else can you expect when you negotiate with these bestial animals.
Re: Taliban’s demands
Interesting discussion here. I agree with Moeed Pirzada. This is not a constitutional, legal or religious issue. **This is playing politics in the name of religion **or political brinkmanship
TTP’s sharia slogan is just a rhetoric. yeh Islam ki jang nahin balke "Islam ki ‘tashreeh’ (for political gain) ki jang hai" much like Zia’s sham islamization drive. This is about political power or regional (FATA +/- beyond) control

was refreshingly surprised to see JUI Hafiz talking sense...atleast he's not in favour of change thru the gun

What a paradox. Why don't they apply shariah to themselves first and accept the punishment proposed in Islamic law for those who spread 'fassad' and kill indiscriminately. Point 2 and 4 and of course in contrast to each other.
