Taliban wanted Osama dead

WASHINGTON: Top Taliban officials, during secret meetings with the US officials in 1998, discussed assassinating or expelling Osama bin Laden in response to Al Qaida’s deadly bombings of American embassies in Africa, according to State Department documents, CNN has reported.

The newly-declassified documents, posted on Thursday on the National Archives website, provide a fascinating glimpse into US diplomacy exerted on Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban a regime officially unrecognised by Washington—nearly three years before the September 11, 2001, Al Qaida attacks on the United States.

According to the documents, the deputy chief of mission at the US embassy in Pakistan, Alan Eastham Jr, met with Wakil Ahmed, a close aide to Taliban leader Mullah Omar, in November and December 1998. That was just months after the August Al Qaida attacks that killed more than 200 people at the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

“It is unbelievable that this small man did this to you,” Ahmed said during their meeting on December 19, 1998, according to the documents. Ahmed told Eastham that he spoke with Omar about bin Laden and that the Taliban still considered the Saudi exile “innocent”.

Talk of assassination during a meeting between Ahmed and Eastham on November 28, 1998, just days after the Taliban’s supreme court cleared bin Laden of terrorist activities,Ahmed said one possibility could be for the US to kill him or arrange for bin Laden to be assassinated. Ahmed said that the US, if it chose to do so, could arrange to have bin Laden killed by cruise missiles or other means, and there would be little the Taliban could do to prevent it," according to the documents.

Another alternative, Ahmed said, would be for the US to provide the Taliban with cruise missiles to have “the situation resolved in this way.” Ahmed also noted that expelling bin Laden likely would result in the Taliban regime being overthrown, according to the documents.

Re: Taliban wanted Osama dead

Wakil was always on the side of US-Pakistan alliance. He could have delivered the goods, but the Talibob-Arrabob alliance held control over interior ministry and judiciary. That made it difficult to get Obl legally out of Afghanistan. Clinton’s half a$$ measures of sending cruise missiles ended up damaging the support from the pro-US pro-Pakistan Afghanistan.

We could have avoided 9-11 had Clinton taken steps to lift sanctions on Pakistan and then send in the GI joes. Later on President Bush have clearly shown that Afghanistan could be captured by only using 1.5-2 divisions.

MAToos are only big in Bharak Bazi (sloganeering) or Munde-Bazi (abusing boys). When the real fighters show up, these MAToos run like chickens.

Re: Taliban wanted Osama dead

Poor Osama.
Every one wants him dead.

Osama - A homeless gangster?

Oh, I forgot. :smack:

I read somewhere that Osama is doing all terrorism because he has no house to live. If some one will buy him a house he will not be interested in terrorism any more. Even people don’t rent him a house beacause he is a terrorist. Its not about America or Islam, it is about a house.

But people think if he will get a house, he will be more dangerous. He is amongst those homeless people, who still can do something to make their living.

Who is paying him?
How he gets his food?
Does he takes bath? Where?
His (20) wifes and (1000) kids, oh how they will be surviving?
How he uses Internet? and who is providing him?
Who pays for his Internet?
