Taliban’s offer to cease fire, hold talks rejected

Dawn Report

ISLAMABAD / KHAR, Aug 24: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Interior Rehman Malik rejected on Sunday a Taliban offer for ceasefire in tribal areas and said that if the militants were serious about peace talks they should first surrender their arms.

The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan had earlier declared a unilateral ceasefire and said it was ready to hold talks with the government if the military operation was halted.

“We will not consider the ceasefire offer until the Taliban renounced recourse to arms,” Mr Malik said.

Talking to reporters after dispatching a convoy of relief goods for the people displaced from the Bajaur tribal agency, he said that more troops had been sent to intensify the anti-militant operation in which about 550 militants and 16 civilians had so far been killed.

Reiterating the government’s resolve to establish its writ all over the country, Mr Malik said: “We will not back down from our principled decision,” he said.

He claimed that security forces had busted a network of suicide bombers on information provided by a would-be suicide bomber arrested after the suicide blasts near the Pakistan Ordinance Factory (POF) in Wah on Thursday.

Referring to the displaced people, he said the government had released Rs80.032 million on the request of the Interior Ministry for relief work and goods had been sent through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to the Provincial Relief Commissioner.

Thirty relief goods trucks were dispatched to Bajaur.

Besides Mr Malik, the convoy was seen off by federal Minister for Sports Najimuddin and members of the National Assembly from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

Re: Taliban’s offer to cease fire, hold talks rejected

Good on the Government. No ceasefire this monster should be destroyed and wiped off. Their offer shows they are on the run and now want a chance to regroup by declaring ceasefire. No to ceasefire.

Re: Taliban’s offer to cease fire, hold talks rejected

No cease fire till they dis arm is the best course of action.

Re: Taliban’s offer to cease fire, hold talks rejected

Forget disarm. Kill the *******s even if they carry no weapons. This type of stupidity festers on regardless if they carry arms or not. The idea should be to eliminate their support, and provide basic necessities to these people.

Simply put, a man or woman that has water, electricity, food, a job and school for their children is not willing to go blow himself up. If they have none of these things, well then you got a breeding ground.

Re: Taliban’s offer to cease fire, hold talks rejected

^^I don’t know what took govt so long to, but here are some positive developments. These people are hiding behind Islam & doing everything unislmaic. They’re pure & simple terrorists & there should be no negations with them. Last time there was peace deal they regrouped & came back as strong thn before.

TTP financiers held in Karachi

TTP financiers held in Karachi

By Salis bin Perwaiz

KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Friday held three financiers of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan from Mauripur and recovered arms and vehicles from their possession.

Intelligence sources said the TTP in order to accelerate the funding process has hired youngsters from Karachi, belonging to Jaish-i-Mohammed, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Harkat ul-Jihad-i-Islami and other militant outfits.

The TTP was facing a shortage of funds in its ongoing war with the Army in the tribal areas and to overcome the problem they had sent some of their members to Karachi to raise funds. It was further learnt that the TTP-affiliated outfits were involved in bank robberies, robbing people who had withdrawn cash from banks and money changers, besides kidnapping for ransom in the city.

These organisations had links with Baitullah Mehsud, who had sent trained people to Karachi and other big cities of the country and directed them to get jobs in security firms or similar professions. Many were deployed at banks or money changers. Once they were appointed there they were asked to commit robberies.

A striking example was a recent robbery in the H&H Exchange Company in which the criminals belonged to Wana, and were reportedly sent by Baitullah Mehsud. Sources maintained after this disclosure, the CID had asked security firms for their record. The CID then started a strict vigil on security guards and the criminal activities reported in recent days and apprehended the financiers of the TTP from Karachi.

SSP Fayyaz Khan of CID said during the course of the investigation they got a tip-off that some criminals having links to the TTP were present in Mauripur. The SSP along with his staff raided the site and after a brief gun battle arrested Tariq alias Junaid, Wasim alias Gadda and Muddasir from Wazir Mansion.

Two vehicles, AEX-682 and a Toyota Corolla car APV-290 were recovered, besides arms. He added that during the course of the investigation the accused disclosed that they worked for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and were assigned to arrange funds.

They further disclosed that they had also kidnapped persons from Karachi for ransom and the ransom amount was taken by their leaders in Dara Adam Khel. Recently, they had kidnapped a Christian, Lister Lobo, from the Cantt area of Karachi and asked his family to go to Dara Adam Khel and pay the ransom money. After getting Rs 0.9 million as ransom, they released Lobo. Further investigations are under way.

bravo to the govt for not falling for this teletubby topi drama

Re: Taliban’s offer to cease fire, hold talks rejected

Does government exactly know who they are , where they are and how they operate ? If yes then why negotiate, just give one last big blow to that outfit and get rid of them once for all. What is government waiting for ? A sign in the sky ?

Re: Taliban’s offer to cease fire, hold talks rejected

Whenever Taliban are at run in Pakistan they offer cease-fire and after regrouping they come back with their new terms and cease fire agreement goes to bin.

This time, Govt. Specially the armed forces should the comb the area and butcher these terrorists.

Govt. Should go one step further and seal the borders.
