I don’t think FATA’s problem is Taliban, it is these criminal elements that have seeped into the society and want to create troubles by passing these decrees, laws and writs. The want to blackmail Pakistani authorities and governments by enforcing these kind of gestures in the name of Islam.
GHALANAI: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Mohmand Agency chapter on Thursday ordered women in the agency to observe purdah (veil) and announced a penalty for the male relatives of women in breach of the order.
TTP spokesman Dr Asad told reporters by telephone from an undisclosed location that the orders had been issued by TTP Mohmand Agency commander Omar Khalid.
TTP also claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of three locals – Meherban, Momin and Mumtaz – from the Qilagai area of Lakro tehsil in the agency.
Dr Asad said that they had taken action against the three locals as they had detained another person. He said they would be dealt with according to Islamic laws.
Nobody has however claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of two other persons Akbar Shah and Nasir Khan who were kidnapped by unidentified men from the Ghazi Baig area.
Not a very long time ago, but before creation of Taliban, every molvi in Karachi and other cities put great empahsis on women to veil, quoting Aayat from Quraan, in every Friday's sermon. Why this has become now illegal or objectionable?

Because they are threatening the male relatives of women who don't follow their instructions.
Every molvi in Pakistan is welcome to extol the virtues of purdah. Every molvi is welcome to praise purdah and women who veil.
Not a single molvi is welcome to make threats to harm people for not wearing veils.
I 100% agree with you that male members should not be threatend. But this problem is not simple and can not be resolved through gunning down Talibans. Because in every Muslim's heart, there is 'a part' of Taliban's ideology hiding somewhere. Though Taliban has taken a very agressive view of Islam, that should not become a reason for every Muslim to denounce Islamic values based on Quraan and Hadith. If that is the case, Pakistan should denounce that it is an Islamic state. Its name should be changed from Islamic Repulic of Pakistan to just Pakistan without any relegion. All mosques/madarsas should be closed and Islamic studies/Quraan should be banned.
I tell you what present modern Muslims are: Drinking, pork eating, fornication, courruption, gay relations, keeping keeps, and nudity are all jaaez. If this has become a normal feature now, why give bad name to Islam, just ban the relegion. Yeh aadha teetar/aadha bater wali baat samajh se bahir hay.

Well, this seems too much of a generalization. There might be a few of an illiterate bunch who thinks eating pork or fornication is halal, but rest of the many know their boundaries well.
No. It is a fact. As Pakis are divided ethnically, cast and creed, there is one more division. Modern Muslims Vs. Taliban Style Muslims. You find this not only in Pakistan but everywhere in western countries. A good number of Modern Educated Muslims practice what I said earlier. They are proud ahd happy to follow wetern culture and freedom.

Purdah is far different than veiling. Purdah doesn't allow the woman to leave the house. Veiling does.
And as others have said, threatening people with violence is not acceptable. It IS objectionable.

Sherdil: I think you are generalizing way too much. Yes there are bad apples but really who are you to tell me that I am a pork-eating, fornicating muslim? Who are you to judge my imaan?
As a muslim I am offended by your statement and I do demand an apology from you.

I'm offended that you have to feel offended. I demand cookies and milk from you in compensation of my mental anguish.

I agree. However, here is the problem. If members of the Taliban hurt a male relative of a woman for not wearing purdah, have they not broken the law and committed assault?
If they have broken the law, they should be arrested and put on trial.
However, when security forces try to arrest taliban members for breaking the law, they get attacked.
As police don't have the same kind of firepower to fight back, they have to bring in the army.
When the army gets involved, more Taliban come to fight. Which leads to gunning down on all sides.
The alternative is to excuse Taliban members from prosecution for breaking laws; which sets a bad precedent for every armed group in Pakistan to try the same (witness the MQM's reign of terror over Karachi, which only ended when enough of them were gunned down).
You're probably right when you say that Pakistanis are not first-rate Muslims. However, forcing them by brute intimidation to follow Islam is only going to drive them to turn against Islam. The Islamic state in Medina was not forced upon its people; they were willing to live by and follow Islam completely first, then they made the Islamic state. Simialrly, in Pakistan the challenge is not how to force people to obey Islam. The challenge is how to make them want to follow Islam.

A good number of "modern" Muslims eating pork, drinking alcohol and indulging fornication? I would like to meet those good number of "modern" Muslims in US :), if someone has misinformed you then it doesn't mean that it becomes a "fact".

Let's define what is Taliban idealogy....merits of veiling are not under debate here...nobody in Pakistan has any objection if a woman decides to veil herself..even preaching the virtues of veiling are not a problem...but if you decide to kill my family if womenfolk in my house do not veil according to your liking...that is totally unacceptable...and that is Taliban ideology...and atleast it is not in my heart...although I claim to be a muslim...I have no desire to destroy church and temples in my country...and we have enough Islam in our country...we are one of the few Islamic countries in the world where selling alchol is banned....selling pork is not allowed....I don't want to see more Islam than this...if you like it you should practice it in your home...I assure you nobody will object to it...but if you decide to bomb the girl's school in my vicinity I will certainly not tolerate it...and would like my government to do everything possible to stop you...
Nobody is saying that mosque madrassahs should be banned...or practising Islam should be banned....but if you kill me because I do not sport a beard of your liking or I am fond of watching western movies...ofcourse this ideology should be banned...your freedom ends where my nose starts...
huh believe me this pardah thing is not all a problem as 100% of local ladies already take purdah...we people living in cities look matters bit critically..not at all a big issue..our idiot media needs to grow up
