This Pashto video report from RTA (Radio Television Afghanistan) shows four men whose ears were cut by the Afghan Taliban last week in Zhari district of Kandahar. The four men are workers of a development project (cleaning canals) which is backed by international troops. In a gathering at the governor’s office in Kandahar, victims of this horrific incident met with the provincial governor and told the governor of their heartbreaking stories. One of the victim said that they were on their way home from work when Taliban riding on motorbikes stopped their vehicle, set the vehicle on fire, and took the four workers with them. After driving off the main road, the Taliban attempted to behead all four of them, but then changed their plan and instead cut their ears and left them bleeding in the desert. Governor of Kandahar, Toryali Isa, while distributing aid packages to the victims of incident said that the perpetrators of such crimes are not only enemies of the government; they are also enemies of humankind and religion. He called their action barbaric and Un-Islamic.
This isn’t the first time the Taliban have showed their barbaric and violent attitude towards innocent people. Last year, during the Afghan elections, they threatened to cut off voters’ fingers. They cut off the ears and nose of a voter because he dared to vote. If we don’t rise against these extremists then the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan will be left under the mercy of these criminals. Who would want to live under this kind of coerce rule? Who would want to give up their basic human rights and live in fear?
