September
Taliban mysteriously appear into the Afghan political scene from Pakistan. They rescued a 30-truck Pakistani convoy heading to Central Asia.
1995
January
Taliban capture the province of Ghazni.
March 10
Taliban seize Karte Seh in Kabul province from Hezb-i-Wahdat, and capture its leader Abdul Ali Mazari.
March 11
Afghan government forces capture Karte Seh from the forces of the Taliban. Bandits and robbers enter the area looting peoples homes until the government set up a security force.
March 13
Abdul Ali Mazari leader of Hezbi-i-Wahdat while being transported to Kandahar by a Helicopter is killed by the Taliban. It is unclear if the Taliban killed him or if he died in a shootout with the Taliban after seizing a gun.
March 19
Afghan government troops defeat the Taliban in Charasyab and capture the town.
March 23
Commander Mohammad Panah a famous Mujahid who fought the Soviets was killed by the Taliban.
March 29
A mass grave dug by the Taliban consisting of 22 people mostly from Hezbi-i-Wahdat discovered in Charasyab.
May 10
Afghan government forces capture the provincial capital of Farah from the Taliban. Fifty Taliban fighters and seven Pakistanis were taken as prisoners.
August 25
Afghan government troops capture Grishk from the Taliban.

Taliban recapture Grishk from the Afghan government forces.

Taliban capture Delaram.
September 4
Taliban capture Shindand and Shindand airport.
September 5
Taliban capture Herat and close schools for boys and girls. Taliban label sports as unislamic.
September 6
Thousands of Afghans protesting the capture of Herat by the Taliban accuse Pakistan of supporting the Taliban. They were protesting in front of the Pakistani embassy in Kabul when someone from inside the embassy fired a shot killing a young student from Naderiya High School. The protectors in turn attacked the embassy and injured the Pakistani ambassodor Qazi Homayun. Five Afghan security forces died trying to stop the protestors.
September 24
The Washington Post in an article "Pakistan aid to rebels has Kabul tackling war" quotes the UN peace envoy Mahmoud Mestiri as saying "The power of the Taliban is mysterious"
September 26
The London Times, in an article "Students army gives notice of attack on Kabul" states the UN peace envoy Mahmoud Mestiri as saying "he was conviced Pakistan was behind the Taliban group"
December 17
Taliban fire 11 rockets into Kabul killing 12 civilians and wounding 15, two of the rockets hit Pul-i-Khisti masjid killing five of the worhippers.
December 20
Taliban fire 19 rockets into Kabul killing 14 civilans and wounding 25.
December 24
Taliban fire dozens of rockets into Kabul killing 5 civilans and wounding 8.

Taliban commander Mullah Meshr and 70 of his men are killed in east Kabul when the Afghan government held air raids in the area.

January 1
Taliban fire 14 rockets into Kabul killing three people and wounding 18. Three homes were also damaged in the attacks. Government planes bomb Charasyab killing 27 Taliban fighters.
January 2
Taliban fire 48 rockets into Kabul killing 22 people and wounding 48.
January 8
Taliban fire 77 rockets into Kabul killing 8 people and wounding 23. Three homes were also damaged in the same attack.
January 10
Taliban fire 23 rockets into Kabul killing 2 people and wounding 15. Six homes were also damaged in the same attack.
January 11
Taliban fire 14 rockets into Kabul killing 5 people and and wounding 14.

Taliban fire 9 rockets into Kabul wounding 1 child and damaging a house.
January 31
The bodies of 5 young people who were kidnapped by the Taliban from south Kabul were recovered from Charasyab. The bodies were brought to south Kabul by the local people where they were laid to rest. It is unclear why the Taliban kidnapped and then killed them.
April 3
Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar is declared the Amir-ur-Momineen ( leader of all the Muslims)
June 1
Afghan government confirms the loss of Chaghcharan, capital of Ghor to the Taliban.
September 5
Taliban launch a major offensive in eastern Afghanistan capturing parts of Paktia held by Hezbi-Islami of Hekmatyar along with large amounts of weapons from an arms depot.
September 11
Taliban capture Nangarhar province along with its capital Jalalabad, thousands try flee to Pakistan. Pakistan closes its border with Afghanistan to prevent new refuges from entering that country. Haji Qadeer governor of Nangarhar flees to Pakistan and claimed that he surrendered Nangarhar to the Taliban to avoid civilian deaths.
September 13
Taliban capture the province of Laghman and its capital Mehtar Lam.
September 22
Taliban claimed to capture the province of Kunar.
September 25
Taliban capture the town of Sarobi, 31 miles east of Kabul.
September 27
The Taliban capture Kabul after Afghan government troops retreat fearing heavy civilian casualities.. The Taliban kill and hang former Afghan President Najibullah along with his brother, Shahpur Ahmadzai. Thousands flee north or to Pakistan.
September 28
Sebghatullah Mujadedi the leader of the National Islamic Salvation of Afghanistan issued a statement in support of the Taliban take over of Kabul. He stated complete support for the Taliban.
September 30
Taliban announced in the Afghan Capital Kabul that women should not report to work, they should stay home. Spokesman for the Taliban, Wakil Ahmad told reporters that the women will be paid. Days later in a CNN interveiw the Taliban deputy foreign minister Sher Mohammad Istanikzai claimed that the Taliban are without funds.
October 1
Sher Mohammed Istanikzai, the Taliban duputy foreign minister in Kabul calimed to have trapped the famous Afghan commander Ahmed Shah Masood in Panjshir valley were Masood previously defeated many Soviet attacks. Istanikzai also said that "we don't want to fight against Dostum". Mawlawi Mohammad Yunus Khales, the leader of Hezb-i-Islami of Afghanistan announced his support for the Taliban in Jalalabad.
October 2
Taliban introduce forced prayer five times a day in Kabul. Amnesty International accuse the Taliban of commiting a reign of terror in the Afghan capital, Kabul. Amnesty said that children and women are being ill-treated by the Taliban. Pakistani Foreign Minister Sardar Aseff Ali said his country recognized the Taliban as Afghanistan's legitimate rulers and called their leaders "men of piety, (with) great love for Islam."
October 10
Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Abdul Ghafoorzai denounced the Taliban at the UN. Taliban leaders call Rashid Dostum a "Muslim and an Afghan".
October 24
Taliban burn Sar Chesma, a small valliage north of the capital Kabul.
October 29
Five civilians are killed in the village of Kalakan when a rocket fired by the Taliban hit their home.
October 30
After the Taliban failed to sweet talk Rashid Dostum into joining their ranks, they declare Jihad on Dostum.
November 2
People in the province of Kunar rose against the Taliban but the Duputy Governor of Nangrahar Sadr-e-Azam appointed by the Taliban said that the revolts were "totally crushed".
November 3
Taliban threaten to kill relief workers working for the Red Cross because the Red Cross employed women. Iran accused the Taliban of fostering the drug trade on its frontier, in the western provinces of Afghanistan.
November 5
Mullah Muhammad Mutaqi, the Information and Culture Minister for the Taliban confirms that a senior Taliban representative had gone to Saudi Arabia "to talk to Saudi authorities", but many believe it to be a mission in search of money.
November 9
Voice of America reports that the Taliban serverely beat a foreign aid worker.
December 3
The Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar tells its members over Kabul Radio to relax their harsh treatment of people in the Afghan capital kabul.
