i saw this book today for the first time about travel tales written by women. It contained 29 short stories about actual travel tales from places as diverse as Nevada to Abu Dhabi, all written by women. It was absolutely hilarious and i couldn’t stop laughing at some of the experiences. i’m just wondering whether anyone has read any other good travel books, written by women, regarding their travel experiences.. i thought i saw a book at a lib once, kindof looked like a book from the Lonely Planet series, madeup of several travelling tales all written by women. But i haven’t been able to find that book again, so dunno who it’s by. Anyone have good recommendations for travel books (must be humourous) from a female perspective?
erm incase anyone is wondering why it has to be written by female authors - just because i find they are more funny and contain more stuff i can relate to.
We had to read this long chapter in our Urdu course back home. It was taken from an Urdu safarnama written by a woman (forgot her name). The chapter was on Hawaii. It was pretty interesting and I could relate to it alot better than the safarnamas written by male authors. Females tend to give a better insight on the daily life situations like the differences b/w American shopping centres and desi ones :P
Hum Sa - i agree, generally speaking, females do tend to give a better insight. Having said this, i have read a FEW accounts from male travellers and sometimes for more honest and 'informative' travel narratives, i think, male travellers are probably better. But it's all very unique, i guess i shouldn't generalize. With females, though, there is so much that you can relate to - male travellers will never have the same problems as female ones and that's what attracts me to the female perspective... cuz you can picture yourself in that situation and effectively sympathize with what the author is describing.
