Taking husband's last name

:lifey:

Me too

Re: Taking husband's last name

i recently got nikkahfied, so my darling change her last name on facebook... not on papers.. :D

... well being a guy it's not a issue with me. I don't have right words to explain, but if she does actually change or add my first to her last name, it will be appreciated.

To me it's like, my wife should be known by my last name - so the world knows who she belongs too.... but i research on this topic and most of the Islamic scholors agree: Wife should not change her name.

"One of the greatest lie is to call a person after a man who is not his/her father". [al-Bukhari]

Saad Ibn Abu Waqas and Abu Bakrata that the Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever is called after a man who is not his father and he knows that, so the paradise is forbidden for him".

as far Gora tradition concerns, i agree this practice is started in England and then inherited in all the Comman Wealth countries..

Re: Taking husband's last name

I didn't change my last name after I got married. And just like Niksik, it was never something that we talked about, almost an assumed thing that I won't change my name. My in laws or husband don't care really.

But sister didn't change her's either. That's how it should be. In Islam we are known by our father's name..

Re: Taking husband's last name

it's unnecessary.

Re: Taking husband's last name

I do know of families where the girls' names were changed for them...no permission needed.
