I am expecting baby #2 in mid Nov. My mother-in-law is planning a trip to Pakistan in Jan. She says she wants me and our two kids to go also to meet her family and friends. I do want to go, especially to Karachi & Lahore, but I’m scared. My mil got malaria the last time she went there and babies have such fragile immune systems that I am really having second thoughts. Does anyone think it’s a bad idea to go or have some experience with this?
Yes it is a bad idea. However, to help you with your mother in law, ask your doctor and share your concerns. You do have pediatrician dont you? Just ask him/her....
not a good idea to take lil kids there. especially in this weather or summer. if u really have to go to pakistan, i suggest u go in winter time. besides if u r in northamerica.. its such a long flight, u might have a hard time in the plane with two kids.
Winter time should be ok. Besides, kids that small are on mothers milk (or specialized formula) anyway, so no chance of them eating anything wrong. The malaria your mother in law got would be beacuse of mosquitos. Since you are going in January, mosquitos should be almost non-existent, unless youre in karachi.....but still dont forget to take basic precautions at night...like sleeping net, mosquito coils, bottled water etc.
For the most part, you should be fine.
Winter is a good time but since the baby will be so young and plus you may not be familiar with things there, I would say not a good idea. I think you will be very stressed out instead of enjoying your trip.
Babies are more resilient than we give them credit for. At that age your baby won't be on solids so you won't have to worry about buying/making baby food. The weather should be good at that time of year too.
The main problem (which isn't really that much of a deal breaker) is managing a small child and baby on a long flight.
Thanks for you input everyone. I've pretty much decided against the trip this time. I can't even take seeing my daughter with a common cold, so anything worse with a newborn would be unbearable.
array Pakistan pohnchana to baad kee baat hai, even 20 hours long flight itself is not good for that little baby in my opinion.
i'm planning to go to pakistan (karachi + islamabad) in summer with my baby (who will be 2 months or so by the time)....
i just hope i can make my wife change her plan of going....
i dont think going to pak is suitable for me, so what wud my kid do there....
