Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

Apparently there are some horrible-tasting malaria tablets that my inlaws and hubby have taken whenever they've traveled to Pakistan. But we've never taken them in my family. The doctor didn't say anything about that.

I'll definitely keep repellants and such for her.

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

Sahar the malaria tablets are controversial and have terrible side effects and can cause fetal abnormalities if you are preggo! Research them thoroughly if you consider them.

I mostquito net to cover your baby when she is asleep is ESSENTIAL

Invest in a good repellant. The strength of repellent is determined by its DEET always go for DEET 50% above and always go for a spray they have higher DEET info here: http://www.safariquip.co.uk/all-categories/insect-protection/insect-repellent/choosing-an-insect-repellent/
there are alternatives the website goes through them!

Also make sure you have some sort of coil/spray mosquito killer in the room!

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

Lol, thanks but I already know all this. I made sure myself and my siblings got all the required jabs before the first time we went to Pakistan.

I'm saying that for the toddler, apart from typhoid and possibly yellow fever, he should have all the other required jabs or should be able to get them.

TB and malaria are probably the ones to watch out for if you have a child. But to be honest, I don't know anyone who has ever contracted malaria, although I know a number of people who have contracted Hep C but they were not careful about what they were eating or drinking.

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

Yeah I don’t want to take them.

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

My little brother did get typhoid on our trip to Pak when he was 7.5. Pretty scary at the time, but mashAllah se he recovered fine. It didn't show up really until we were home, so he was able to get good care.

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

^ oh sorry stoppit i misunderstood hehe! I think the baby could possibly have hep A. I have also known people to get hep C but my cousin from canada got malaria when he was visiting and honestly BAD TIMES.

better to be safe than sorry.

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

I would not go anywhere where there is a mosquito problem then. I have been to Pakistan at different times over the summer and in the winter. I very rarely even get a bite. I'm sure it depends where you go.

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

Yeah i think he higher you go the less the mosquitos. I get bitten in Karachi :( they seem to love foreign blood. I guess its hard to avoid going to those places if your whole entire khandan lives there! Thats why strict preventions are best.

Its not like you will get Malaria if you go but its best to reduce risk as much as possible there are loads of people in khi not everyone is dying of malaria haha.

Also apparently dawn and dusk are mosquito feeding times? im not entirely sure though

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

Never used mosquito nets before during our trips to Pak. Do you take them with you or get them there?

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

Sahar when we were babies/kids my parents took them from here, my cousins etc who travel with babies from abroad also bring them from Canada/ America.

they look like this

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

I am guessing soya milk diet may have something to do with the lack of vaccinations.....not sure though. I have read and heard about allergies related to soya milk, but it would be good to get the original poster's feedback on this, as I still cant get my head around the fact that at 15 months, a child wouldn't have been vaccinated at all.

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

They are called machar dani there and are easily available there.

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

i traveled with my daughter to pakistan when she was 15 months , i told her doc one month before n dede was given shots for hep A and hep B n doc said ,shes good to go ..

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

We used to take those Quinine tablets when we were little, the taste was so disgusting my mum would have to crush them with honey to make them palatable..

My parents were so paranoid I remember my dad even packing Rabies vaccines lol

Re: taking 15 month old Pakistan without vaccinations

I had TB even though I was vaccined so its not necessarily bullet proof
