Well Punjab is around 60% as it is, but the percentage in the army has hovered around 80%. I think there used to be more pashtuns back in the day, but the army is trying to diversify itself by inducting balochis & sindhis. I remember someone asked ayub khan about pashtunistan vs. afghanistan and he laughed and said, look at the people around me and tell me why would I want a pashtunistan?

There should be representation of all ethnicities in the armed forces there is no two way around it. The army should have carried out the diversification much earlier than today, but better late than never. Most of the people in the army are and always have been from Northern Punjab (Potohar area) and areas forming KP which is going on since the independence. Unfortunately being the most populous province Punjab is made a scape goat, but if you see Central Punjab (which is this term of takht e Lahore) has never had any role in the military or politics of the country if you minus Sharif’s. Military has been controlled by North Punjab and the politics by 20-30 feudal families which every one knows where they reside.
