Anyone taken kickboxing??. I am actually thinking of taking in summer. If ya did..how did you find it???
Re: Taken Kickboxing Anyone?
If you’re serious about taking something up like Kickboxing, I’d say go for Muay Thai as your primary choice and if you don’t find a good camp, go with Kickboxing.
Quite simply, Muay Thai, also called Art of Eight Limbs is more versatile and more varied. You have the added incorporation of elbow and knee strikes which are not part of Kickboxing. I did some Muay Thai along with some other forms of martial arts when I was fighting and honestly I found it incredibly fascinating. There’s just so much history with the discipline and the true Nak Muay unleashing the Eight Limbs is a sight to behold. There are some badass Kickboxers too, look at K1 for example. Its such a stacked promotion but the majority of their fighters have a Muay Thai base.
Either way, good luck with whatever you decide to go with. Tell us how it goes!

Re: Taken Kickboxing Anyone?
gdisa hit the nail on the head. I have been doing muay thai for 4 years and have come up against kickboxers. Without sounding cocky i was much better equiped than them as they were just limited to legs mostly. Side note, i just picked up BJJ. Im a newbie at that. Provides excellent groundwork. I was stuck between sambo and BJJ. BJJ was much easier to pick up for me so i picked that. If your gonna do kickboxing take it with boxing maybe??
Re: Taken Kickboxing Anyone?
I would love to take it up as a way to workout. Boxers look so...BADA*S.

Muay Thai is some serious business dude. I would like to try kickboxing and then jump into specialization when i am used to all those kicks and box. Do ya still fight?..how long ya have done it for?? And also if ya can answer how was the training in the begining??

At the beggining was very basic. Just shadowing pretty much and practicing with my mentor. Getting the stance right and the movements, co-ordination and all that jazz. Then i moved onto combos. I went on like that for about 6 months cuz i was doing it on and off but could have done it much quicker if i wanted (had other commitments). Any other questions just fire away

That's the wrong approach bru... Kickboxing is a specialization as much as Muay Thai is.
You will get used to kicks, knees, punches and elbows when you start Muay Thai, don't worry about that.
I did Muay Thai for about one year, didn't really specialize. I was more into boxing and grapping but Muay Thai gave me some excellent knee and elbow strikes to use during my fights. I did these fights on-off over a period of three years. They weren't exactly sanctioned/legal but you get paid! :D
Training is fun if you're into it. I don't know of anyone who started training and gave up. Its intense but it pays of mate. Go for it!
